Days 1–7

South Africa - Cederberg Mountains

We begin our adventure journey and leave Cape Town in the morning, first making a short stop for a last look at Table Mountain from the other side of Table Bay. The Cederberg region offers not only spectacular mountains and orange farms but is also home to the Rooibos bush, which has become a well-known drink worldwide. We visit an operating Rooibos tea farm and see the Rooibos and Buchu plants in their natural environment. Dinner at our accommodation allows us to get to know each other and witness the hospitality of South Africans. Included Highlight: Rooibos tea plantation visit

Namaqualand - Gariep (Orange) River

Namaqualand gives us a first impression of the desert views that will accompany us in the coming days. We continue our journey northwards and after a brief stop in Springbok to buy supplies, we arrive at our camp on the banks of the Orange River. Those lucky enough to travel in the spring months (July to September) can see the unique wildflowers that have made this region famous. Regardless of the season, the extraordinary views of the desert provide a unique backdrop for our day. Included Highlight: Spring wildflowers (seasonal July – September)

Namibia - Gariep (Orange) River - Fish River Canyon

The Orange River was named after the Dutch royal family but was known in earlier days by its original name Gariep, which simply means 'river' in the indigenous KhoeKhoe language. The Orange River, which originates in the mountains of Lesotho, is the longest river in South Africa and presents a unique contrast to the desert landscapes along its banks. The best way to experience the river is to get on the water, and this morning we have the opportunity to join an optional canoe tour on the river. Later in the morning, we cross the border into Namibia and continue to the Fish River Canyon, one of the largest of its kind in the world, being the 2nd largest canyon in the world. This afternoon we take a walk along the edge of the canyon, where breathtaking views into the depths of the canyon await us, ending our day with an unforgettable sunset at the edge of the canyon. Optional Activities: Half-day canoe trip

Fish River Canyon, Quiver Tree Forest and Giants Playground

Today we set out early and drive to the edge of Fish River Canyon. We have time to witness the first rays of sunlight flooding the canyon. We stretch our legs and take a short walk along the rim of the canyon. Afterwards, we head west to the desert town of Keetmanshoop. In the afternoon, we visit the Quiver Tree Forest and Giants Playground, named for its massive and unique rock formations. Included Highlight: Scenic walk along the edge of Fish River Canyon / Visit to the Quiver Tree Forest and Giants Playground

Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.

Namib-Naukluft National Park

Today is free for our own activities and offers a good opportunity to let the countless impressions and experiences of the past days sink in. There is the option to take a walk through the desert on our own from the camp. Optional Highlight: Desert walk

Sossusvlei Dunes - Namib-Naukluft National Park

We hike up Dune 45, the highest dune in Namibia. The view will reward all our efforts. After we loosen our legs, we enjoy a hearty breakfast and then venture deeper into the dunes using a 4x4 transfer to the wonders of Sossusvlei. We take our time to explore both Sossusvlei and Deadvlei before bidding farewell to the dune fields. Tonight, we shake the red sand from our shoes and spend the night under the stunning African starry sky. Included Highlight: Hike in the Sesriem Canyon, climbing Dune 45, 4x4 transfer to Sossusvlei / Deadvlei

Swakopmund

Today we continue westward and make our way to the coastal town of Swakopmund, where adventure and a dose of civilization await us. After a final excursion into the desert with a local guide, we continue our adventure journey across the Tropic of Capricorn to the Atlantic coast. We make a brief stop at the Walvis Bay Lagoon, where we hope to catch a glimpse of the magnificent flamingos that feed in the shallow waters here. Upon arrival in Swakopmund, we have the chance to book some of the many optional activities offered. Unfortunately, the adventure trip in beautiful South Africa and Namibia comes to an end here. Included Activity: Tropic of Capricorn, Walvis Bay Lagoon, guided desert walk with a local guide.
