Mongolia Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Mongolia generally requires a visa for stays longer than 30 days. Travelers from many countries, including Germany, can however enter visa-free for up to 30 days. To apply for a visa, visit the official embassy or consulate. A visa is not available at the airport, so plan ahead. Also, use online services when available to expedite the process.
The Chinggis Khaan International Airport (ULN) in Ulaanbaatar is the most used airport in Mongolia. International flights are handled here. From Ulaanbaatar you can organize motorcycle trips to various destinations. Make sure to book a flight that fits your travel plans, especially for domestic flights for long distances within Mongolia.
The local currency in Mongolia is the Tugrik (MNT). Credit cards are mainly accepted in larger cities like Ulaanbaatar, but cash is important in rural areas. It is advisable to have cash on hand to pay for local markets or guesthouses. ATMs are available in cities, but check the fees and limits beforehand.
There are no mandatory vaccinations for Mongolia, but vaccination against Hepatitis A and Tetanus is recommended. A travel insurance is also highly advisable to cover medical emergencies.
