In Central America most travelers from Europe, the USA, and Canada do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. For some countries like Nicaragua, a visitor can obtain a visa upon arrival. It is advisable to consult the official website of the embassy of the respective country for the application process. For longer stays, a visa should be applied for in advance.
The Tocumen Airport in Panama City is considered one of the best airports for travel in Central America. It offers numerous international connections and modern facilities. For destinations in Costa Rica, the Juan Santamaria International Airport is ideal. Check which airport fits best with your travel itinerary and book your flight accordingly.
The local currency varies in Central America; Costa Rica uses the Colon while the US Dollar is widely used in Panama. Credit cards are accepted in urban areas, but it is advisable to carry cash for rural areas and smaller businesses. Make sure to use a credit card with low foreign transaction fees.
