Our Argentina motorcycle tours range from the compact 8-day Atacama pass ride in the northwest, through 13-day loops across Northwest Argentina and North Patagonia, to the 15-day Bariloche-Ushuaia run and the big 27-day Route 40 journey from Salta to the end of the world. The roads are mostly paved with gravel sections, so solid road experience is enough, you do not need off-road technique. It gets tougher on Andes passes above 4,000 metres and on the long, wind-exposed stages of the Carretera Austral and Route 40 in Patagonia, which demand stamina in changing weather.
You ride a rental motorcycle provided on site, transporting your own machine across the Atlantic is not worth it over this distance. Tour length grows with the route: the Atacama and Northwest Argentina tours stay close to the Salta and Jujuy region, while Route 40 crosses the thinly populated vastness of Patagonia for weeks, so daily distances between stops run longer there. Riders combining Argentina with Chile, as on the Bariloche to Ushuaia or the Route 40 ride, cross the border more than once.
A typical day starts with a briefing and GPS track, then several hours in the saddle on pass, desert or steppe roads. Evenings bring a hotel or apartment, depending on the region: an Andean village, a glacier lake, or a Patagonian town, and at Argentina-Chile border crossings our multilingual guide handles the customs paperwork for the bikes. Argentina's best riding season shifts with the region. The northwest around Salta and the Andes rides well from March to November. Patagonia and Route 40 are best in the Argentine summer, November to March. The window for reaching Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego is shortest: December to February.
