For most travelers, no visa is required to enter Romania for stays of up to 90 days. EU citizens, as well as citizens from the USA, Canada, and Australia only need a valid passport. However, please note special regulations for other countries. For longer stays, you should apply for a visa in advance, which can be done online.

The best airport destination for international flights is Henri Coandă Airport (OTP) in Bucharest. The airport has good connections to all major cities in the country. For off-road adventures, it is advisable to rent a car directly at the airport to facilitate access to remote areas. Alternatively, the airports in Cluj-Napoca and Timișoara are also recommended.

The official currency in Romania is the Leu (RON). While credit cards are widely accepted in larger cities, cash is often preferred in rural areas. It is advisable to always carry some cash for small purchases and local markets. ATMs are common, but check your bank's fees for international transactions in advance.

Vaccinations are usually not mandatory, but standard vaccinations should be up to date, especially against tetanus and diphtheria. A travel insurance is highly recommended as it covers unexpected medical expenses. Check the current health guidelines and recommendations for Romania before traveling.

To drive off-road in Romania, you will need a valid driver's license. An international driver's license is recommended to avoid possible language barriers. Be aware of local traffic rules. Off-road driving often requires an SUV or all-terrain vehicle. Check your rental agency's requirements before renting.

SIM cards are easily available in Romania, both at the airport and in stores. Prepaid cards from providers like Vodafone, Orange, and Telekom offer good mobile services. Don't forget to have your ID ready for registration. Check the rates for data and calls to choose the best plan for your needs.
