Motorcycle travel highlights in Sri Lanka A motorcycle tour through Sri Lanka takes you to impressive cultural treasures such as the Golden Temple of Dambulla and the majestic Sigiriya Rock Temple. The route passes through untouched national parks and impressive tea plantations. Immerse yourself in the diverse nature and culture of this unique destination.
Our Sri Lanka motorcycle tours range from the 9-day Highlights ride to the 20-day Culture & Nature enduro trip, both rated medium difficulty. Most of the route runs on winding, well-paved roads through the highlands around Nuwara Eliya and Ella and through the Cultural Triangle, with tougher off-road and gravel sections added along the south coast and inside the national parks. If you're confident cornering on asphalt and don't mind a few short stretches on loose ground, you're set for either tour.
Since Sri Lanka is only reachable by plane, you ride a rental bike on both tours, usually a Honda or Baja enduro with a 250cc engine, kept running by the mechanic in the support vehicle. Bringing your own bike isn't an option here, but the rental machines are prepared and serviced for the terrain you'll cover, from highland switchbacks to national park tracks.
Every riding day starts with a briefing and a GPS track for the stage ahead, before the group of up to 10 riders sets off over highland passes, country roads through the Cultural Triangle, or tracks near the national parks. Some stages run up to 200 km, like the leg from Negombo to Kalpitiya, and depending on the tour you'll cover a few hundred kilometres on the 9-day trip to well over a thousand on the 20-day journey. The support vehicle and mechanic stay with you throughout, with lodging along the route waiting at the end of each day.
Both Sri Lanka tours are rated medium difficulty. You should be confident cornering on paved roads and comfortable with short off-road and gravel sections in the national parks and along the south coast.
