What Makes South America Different to Ride

No other continent packs in so many extremes on one route: tropical Andes, the world's driest desert and sub-polar plains, often within a few days of riding.

57 days

One Continuous Continent Crossing

Both of our South America expeditions run 57 days from start to finish, long enough to link the Andean highlands, the Atacama desert and Patagonia in a single, continuous drive instead of a series of short trips.

8 to 15 drivers

Small Groups, a Guide Vehicle Alongside

Groups stay deliberately small: 8 to 14 drivers on the north-south route, 8 to 15 on the Tierra del Fuego to Caribbean route, with an experienced guide vehicle handling navigation and technical support while you drive your own 4x4.

From €16,700

Two Fixed Departures a Year

There are only two set departures each year: the north-south route starts in February, the Tierra del Fuego to Caribbean route in November, both running the full 57 days from €16,700 per person.

  • What's the best time to ride offroad in South America?
It depends on the region. The Andes, the Altiplano and the Atacama desert are best from May to September, when the tracks are dry and the skies are clear. Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego ride best in the South American summer, November to March. Our 57-day expeditions are timed to catch each region at its best.
  • Do I need previous offroad experience?
Basic experience with a 4x4 helps, but it is not a requirement. The routes build up gradually across gravel, sand and high-altitude tracks, and our guide vehicle is there for the technical sections, so the pace fits the group.
  • How high do the routes climb in the Andes?
Several Andean passes on our routes sit well above the tree line. We plan rest days into the schedule so the group can acclimatize gradually; carrying enough water and staying well rested matters more than raw driving skill up there.
  • Do I drive myself, or am I a passenger?
You drive your own 4x4 the whole way. An experienced guide vehicle travels with the group, taking care of navigation, technical backup and logistics, so you can focus on the road and the landscape.
  • Can I combine the Andes, the desert and Patagonia in one trip?
Yes. Our Tierra del Fuego to Caribbean expedition links Patagonia, the Andes and the Atacama desert in one continuous 57-day route. The north-south expedition covers the same regions in the opposite direction, so you can pick the departure date that fits your year.
