Both Albania 4x4 trips are rated skill level one and are built for drivers who already have basic off-road experience, not complete beginners. On the 7-day Land of the Eagles route, the pass into Theth in the Shala Mountains climbs to 1,600 meters through tight switchbacks and stream crossings, and our local guide sets the pace and shows you the line on the hardest sections. The 10-day Albania 4x4 Off-Road Adventure Trip covers similar ground, including a narrow track along the Osum Gorges, cut up to 80 meters deep, that ordinary vehicles cannot drive.
On Land of the Eagles you drive your own capable 4x4, a Defender, Land Cruiser or Hilux with low-range gearing, or you can arrange a rental vehicle on request. The Albania 4x4 Off-Road Adventure Trip offers no rental option: you need your own well-maintained 4x4 fitted with AT or MT tires, recovery straps and a winch, since several stages only work with proper off-road gear.
Expect long days on gravel, river fords and mountain track rather than asphalt, climbing past Lura National Park at 1,800 meters and on toward Tomorri Mountain at 2,416 meters. Each day starts with a briefing and vehicle check before the guide leads the way on the technical stretches, and nights alternate between camping, at Lake Shkodra or in Theth for example, and stays in local guesthouses or hotels, depending on the tour and the stage.
Experience required
Both Albania tours are rated skill level one and are not suited to absolute off-road beginners. Basic off-road experience or a prior off-road basic training course is enough; the guide actively supports you on technical sections such as the Theth pass and the Osum Gorges.
Own bike allowed
On Land of the Eagles you drive your own 4x4 (Defender, Land Cruiser, Hilux) or book a rental vehicle on request. The Albania 4x4 Off-Road Adventure Trip requires your own well-maintained vehicle with AT or MT tires; no rental is offered.
Daily distance
There is no fixed daily average: the terrain ranges from gravel and river fords to mountain track rather than asphalt, with the route climbing from Lura National Park at 1,800 meters up to Tomorri Mountain at 2,416 meters, so daily distance depends on the stage.
Typical day
Each day opens with a briefing and vehicle check, then the local guide leads the way on technical passages such as the Theth pass and the Osum Gorges. Nights alternate between camping, for example at Lake Shkodra or in Theth, and stays in local guesthouses or hotels depending on the tour and stage.
Best time to ride
The Albanian Alps around Theth ride best from June to September, once the high passes are clear of snow. On the Albania Offroad Round Trip - Land of the Eagles, the price of 1,299 euros per vehicle covers trip organization, a local guide for all 7 days, 5 nights of camping and technical support; catering, the 2 hotel nights and travel to Albania are extra. On the 10-day Albania 4x4 Off-Road Adventure Trip, 1,999 euros per vehicle covers trip organization, a local English-speaking guide, 9 days off-road, 3 nights in hotels or guesthouses, 7 nights camping and a surprise meal; fuel, catering and travel to Albania are not included.

How does booking an Albania 4x4 trip work?
After your enquiry you receive a personal offer with the travel dates and number of vehicles. The booking becomes binding once you confirm it, and you then receive the trip folder, GPS tracks and all further details on gear and the meeting point.
What extra gear should I bring?
For the Albania 4x4 Off-Road Adventure Trip we recommend off-road gear such as recovery straps, tools, a spare tire, a first aid kit and a winch. Catering, fuel and personal expenses are not included in the base price on either trip.
