OFFROAD-TRAVEL · ASIA
A Kyrgyzstan off-road trip takes you deep into the rugged expanse of Central Asia, along the historic Silk Road through the Tian Shan and Pamir mountains.
The Journey
This Kyrgyzstan Offroad trip lasts 8 days full of adrenaline in the wild landscape of the Tian-Shan mountains. As a Kyrgyzstan Survival Tour and overlanding adventure, it takes you deep into the nature of Kyrgyzstan, where you get to know the authentic lifestyle of the Kyrgyz nomads. You will spend the night in traditional yurts and feel the nomadic spirit up close. This Kyrgyzstan 4x4 expedition will also serve you typical specialties like Beshbarmak and Manti, hot tea, local music, and traditional folklore.
Your Kyrgyzstan Offroad Journey begins with the meeting in Bishkek, the vibrant capital of Kyrgyzstan with green parks, wide streets, and impressive marble buildings. Soviet architecture meets residential blocks and lovingly built private houses.
The checkerboard street layout with small irrigation channels provides plenty of greenery and pleasant shade – the perfect start to your adventure.
Today your Kyrgyzstan 4x4 rental car tour really begins: We leave Bishkek and initially drive on asphalt before switching to remote trails. The landscape becomes wilder, the mountains come closer – a first taste of overlanding in Kyrgyzstan.
At 10:00 AM we start on rocky paths towards Moldo-Ashuu Pass (3,346 m). After crossing the pass, we descend steeply through canyons with rushing rivers, continuing through semi-desert to another pass (3,165 m) and finally to Tasch-Rabat, an old inn from the 12th century on the Silk Road.
This Kyrgyzstan Nomads Journey stage ends in traditional yurts with dinner and sauna or while camping in the mountains.
At 9:00 AM we set off to the Issyk-Kul Lake. The route leads through spectacular canyons and alpine expanses over 3,000 m, initially on asphalt, then on stony paths.
If the weather is good, we take the route over the Tosor Pass (approx. 4,000 m) down to Issyk-Kul. This Kyrgyzstan camping trip night we spend in the middle of nature.
