Our 4x4 off-road tours in France are rated entry-level, and the 2-day 4x4 training genuinely starts from zero: no previous experience needed, just a willingness to learn. The Markom Travel Trophy Northern Vosges is technically open to beginners too, but past participants consistently describe the off-road sections as demanding real technique, articulation, careful braking and confident control on loose surfaces. Choose the training if you are starting out, or the Travel Trophy if you already have some off-road basics and want to build on them.
You drive your own vehicle throughout: a 4x4 for the training and the classic Travel Trophy, or your own 4x4 motorhome on the dedicated camper edition. The training additionally brings a range of practice vehicles onto the closed course, so you get to feel how different drivetrains and tyre setups behave off-road before committing to your own.
Both formats run as compact 2-day weekends in the Vosges and Alsace, built around technique rather than distance. Each day opens with a safety and route briefing; the training adds a theory block before you head onto the exclusive practice ground, while the Travel Trophy moves straight from vehicle checks into the day's stages. Groups stay small, up to 8 or 10 participants, so instructors can work with you individually on climbs, descents and articulation. Overnight stays are in quiet countryside in Alsace, often with a shared barbecue before the tougher sections of day 2.
Experience required
All three France tours are rated entry-level. The 2-day 4x4 training starts from zero, no experience needed. The Markom Travel Trophy Northern Vosges is open to beginners too, but reviews describe its off-road sections as demanding real technique such as articulation and precise braking.

Daily distance
These are technique-focused 2-day tours in the Vosges, not distance tours: there is no daily km target, progress is measured in skills covered rather than kilometres driven each day.

What's included in the price of a 4x4 tour in France?
Trained off-road instructors or guides, use of the closed training ground or the planned Travel Trophy route, daily briefings, vehicle checks, and the overnight stays and meals listed in the itinerary, including a shared barbecue evening. Travel to France, fuel and insurance for your vehicle are not included.
Do I need my own vehicle, or can I rent one?
You drive your own 4x4 on the training and the classic Travel Trophy, or your own 4x4 motorhome on the camper edition. The 2-day training also brings a range of practice vehicles onto the closed course, but OVERCROSS does not rent out vehicles for the France tours.
How big are the groups on the Markom Travel Trophy Northern Vosges?
Groups are kept deliberately small, up to 8 participants, so our off-road instructors and guides can work with each driver individually and adjust the pace of every stage to the group.
Which tour suits my level?
New to off-road driving? The 2-day 4x4 training, with its theory day and practical day, is the right starting point. Already have the basics? The Markom Travel Trophy Northern Vosges offers more demanding stages, in your own 4x4 or the version built for 4x4 motorhomes.
How does booking and the deposit work?
After your booking request you receive a personal offer including our travel protection certificate. The booking becomes binding once you confirm it, after which you get all further details on arrival, the vehicle check and how the days on site are run.
What do I need to organise besides the tour itself?
You arrange your own travel to the starting point in Alsace or the Northern Vosges, fuel, meals outside the programme and suitable insurance for your vehicle. The travel protection certificate is included in the price; we also recommend separate travel health insurance.
