MOTORCYCLE-TRIPS · ISLAND
Welcome to your off-road motorcycle tour through the wild Westfjords of Iceland - a camping motorcycle trip for everyone who loves gravel, curves, and the unknown. This is not a cozy Sunday outing. About 1,800 km of challenging routes, lonely fjords, and raw natural forces await.
The Journey
Welcome to your camping motorcycle trip through Iceland and the impressive Westfjords! This tour is made for adventurers who want to discover unspoiled Iceland on two wheels. From your arrival at Keflavik Airport to the last shared dinner in Selfoss, you will experience 9 days through rocky coasts, wide fjords, and remote villages. The off-road motorcycle tour through the Westfjords takes you to legendary sights and right into the rough nature of Iceland - accompanied by real insider tips from your guide. Whether historical places, wild landscapes, or simply the freedom on the motorcycle: This journey has something for every explorer.
After your arrival at Keflavik Airport, the OVERCROSS team will welcome you and take you by shuttle to Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the world. After check-in, you can take a breath and sniff the first Icelandic air. In the evening, your camping motorcycle trip through Iceland kicks off with a welcome dinner and the tour briefing: route, technology, weather, and insider tips for the upcoming off-road days - then it's adventure mode on.
By bus transfer, you head out of the capital and into the heart of Iceland. You pass the Thingvellir National Park, where the oldest parliament in the world was established in 930 - right on the seam of two tectonic plates. Further along the highland road F550 (Kaldidalur) alongside the Langjökull glacier: rugged lava fields and the first true off-road vibes. Over Husafell with its hot springs, you roll westward. This off-road motorcycle tour shows its rugged side today. Distance: 280 km.
Today one of the most spectacular sections of the off-road motorcycle tour through the Westfjords awaits: the south coast overlooking the vast Breidafjordur bay and its hundreds of islands. Fjords cut deeply between the mountains, a new backdrop around every bend. The roads are narrow and challenging, but rewarding. The destination is Latrabjarg, the westernmost cliff in Europe, where the waves crash against steep cliffs up to 400 m high - if you’re lucky, you’ll see puffins. Distance: 190 km.
Fjords, fjords and more fjords: Today, small side arms branch off into large fjords, and every meter of elevation rewards you with views of rugged peaks and lonely bays. The route leads over steep passes and down to hidden shores. Then it stands before you: Dynjandi, the most impressive waterfall of the Westfjords, broad and powerful like a cathedral of water. This enduro motorcycle journey through Iceland reaches Isafjoerdur today. Distance: 214 km.
The day starts relaxed, but soon you reach Sudavik. At the Arctic Fox Center, you learn everything about the arctic fox, the tough survivor of the north - if you're lucky, you'll get to see one of the fluffy inhabitants. Afterwards, you cruise along the fjords, through wide valleys and past streams from the highlands. Your camping motorcycle trip through Iceland ends today in the almost forgotten village of Djupavik by the Atlantic. Distance: 270 km.
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
Today, only a short stage lies ahead of you, which will take you to some of the most remote places in Iceland. From Djupavik, it goes along a dramatically rising coastal road to Ofeigsfjörður - the last point you can reach by motorcycle. Along the way, you pass an abandoned herring factory, now a fascinating lost place. To finish, you bathe in Krossneslaug, a natural pool at the cliff coast, overlooking the icy Atlantic. This motorcycle journey through the Westfjords feels like the end of the world. Distance: 113 km.
The motorcycle trip leads along the rugged coast to the south. First stop is the fishing town of Drangsnes with its natural hot pots directly by the sea. Next, we continue to Holmavik and over an old, little-used road to Bordeyri, with 16 inhabitants the smallest inhabited village in Iceland. Over the lonely highland passage Laxardalsheidi, you roll westwards until Stykkisholmur, your day's destination with the harbor and colorful house view. This off-road motorcycle tour shows Iceland's quiet side today. Distance: 321 km.
The last driving day starts in Stykkisholmur via the rough mountain road Kellingarskard to the Snaefellsnes peninsula. Through the flat plain Myrar, you reach Borgarnes on the Ring Road F1. Then it continues past Skorradalsvatn and over the Draghals pass into the Hvalfjoerdur, the Fjord of Whales, on the old coastal road: curve after curve, abundant fjord views. The enduro motorcycle trip concludes at Thingvellir National Park before you reach Selfoss. Distance: 245 km.
After a final breakfast, the motorcycle tour operator OVERCROSS organizes your transfer back to Reykjavik and onwards to Keflavik International Airport. Your motorcycle journey through Iceland and the West Fjords ends with gravel, fjords, and glacier views in your luggage. Perhaps we'll see each other again soon - on one of the next tours to Africa, Asia, or Latin America. Until then: stay wild, ride hard!
