Negombo - Kalpitiya by the Lagoon

You will ride north towards Kalpitiya along the coastal road with its shrimp farms. Soon, you will turn off the main road and roll through palm plantations on unpaved paths - a first taste of off-road riding in Sri Lanka. The region by the Puttalam Lagoon is popular with kite and windsurfers. You can reach the beach on foot from the resort. (200 km)

Kalpitiya - Dambulla Inland

Kalpitiya - Dambulla Inland

Today, you will head east into the interior. Before long, you will swap the main road for smaller, partly unpaved tracks. The area is characterised by numerous water tanks and vast rice fields, which will provide you with beautiful views throughout your motorcycle tour in Sri Lanka. In the afternoon, you will reach Dambulla, the cultural heart of the island. (210 km)

Dambulla - Rest Day & Sigiriya

There is much to discover around Dambulla. You will visit the Golden Cave Temple with its 2,100 square meters of murals and take an excursion to the 20-kilometre distant rock of Sigiriya. The Lion Rock is a UNESCO World Heritage site and features remnants of a palace, including a mirror wall and frescoes of celestial maidens. A cultural day on your enduro journey through Sri Lanka.

Dambulla - Polonnaruwa / 120 km

In the morning, there is time to visit the Golden Temple if you haven't seen it yet. After lunch, you will ride for about two and a half hours to Polonnaruwa - along the Angammedilla Canal and past Giritale Lake. Your hotel is located on the outskirts of the city, surrounded by rice fields. In the evening, a Sri Lankan feast awaits you - a delightful moment of your Sri Lanka motorcycle journey. (120 km)

Polonnaruwa - Trincomalee / 120 km

You will continue east along side roads and artificial canals. On unpaved paths, you will cross the eastern part of Somawathiya National Park, where elephants still roam. Beautiful off-road trails lead through the vast rice fields of the Eastern Province - enduro in Sri Lanka as it should be. Your overnight stay is by the river in Trincomalee. (120 km)

Trincomalee - Pasikudah / 180 km

The morning stage takes you off-road through Somawathiya National Park, with densely overgrown paths and extensive field roads - enduro in Sri Lanka as it should be. Many wild elephants live here. You will briefly return to the main road before unpaved roads take you through small villages by lakes and rice fields to the beach hotel in Pasikudah. (180 km)

Pasikudah - Mahiyangana / 160 km

Today, you will quickly leave the main road and ride off-road into the sparsely populated interior. Between vast rice fields, a beautiful off-road section awaits you, which can be challenging in wet conditions. You will reach Mahiyangana via the main road, a place little known to tourists. It is worth a two-day stay on your motorcycle tour through Sri Lanka. (160 km)

Mahiyangana - Veddas & Safari

A special day awaits you: First, you will visit the Veddas, the oldest tribe in Sri Lanka. After that, you will go on a safari in Maduru Oya National Park, which few tourists visit. Mahiyangana - Kandy (Temple of the Tooth)

After breakfast, you will ride to the Knuckles Forest Reserve and begin the ascent via an old road, with several stops for the view. Before Kandy, you will take a tour through tea plantations. In Kandy, you will visit the Temple of the Tooth in the royal palace complex, which houses the tooth relic of Buddha. A cultural day on your motorcycle tour through Sri Lanka. (150 km)

Kandy - Nuwara Eliya (Tea Factory)

You will leave Kandy on the main road, but the further you go, the quieter it becomes. After 18 bends, you will turn onto small roads between rice fields. Over the Victoria-Randenigala-Rantembe Sanctuary, the ascent begins among giant tea plantations. In the early afternoon, you will reach Nuwara Eliya and can visit the Pedro tea factory from 1885. A highlight of the Sri Lanka motorcycle journey. (160 km)

Nuwara Eliya - Ella (Tea Plantations)

You will quickly immerse yourself in the tea plantations with wide views. The road becomes narrower as you ascend, and just below the summit, you will turn onto a path through forests and small tea villages. You will continue winding your way towards Ella, known for the Nine Arches Bridge and waterfalls. A delightful section of your Sri Lanka motorcycle journey. (170 km)

Ella - Tissamaharama / 200 km

After breakfast, you will continue south, first through the mountains, then via a small road to the main road. This leads past Lunugamvehera National Park, where elephants can spontaneously cross the road. Your cottages are located outside Tissamaharama, among rice fields, with a swimming pool - a peaceful rest on your motorcycle tour through Sri Lanka. (200 km)

Tissamaharama - Udawalawa (Safari)

In the morning, you can relax or go on a safari: At 4:30 am, a jeep will pick you up for the national park, where you can see elephants, crocodiles, and leopards. You will be back by midday. After lunch, you will ride a short, often unpaved stage through parks and along canals to Udawalawa National Park - pure off-road in Sri Lanka. (110 km)

Udawalawa - Mirissa (Elephant Orphanage)

After breakfast, you will visit an elephant orphanage nearby. Then, you will continue south: along small roads, through rice fields and palm plantations, reaching Mirissa on the southern coast. Your hotel is only 300 meters from the beach, and restaurants are within walking distance. A lovely conclusion to this stage of your motorcycle tour through Sri Lanka. (100 km)

Mirissa - Rest Day & Fort Galle

Today, you can enjoy the tropical beach of Mirissa. For those who want to stay active, you can take the regional train to Fort Galle, a colonial city from 1663, located 40 kilometres away. Alternatively, you can go on a two-hour sailing trip to watch whales - including the blue whale, which can grow up to 30 meters long. A free day on your enduro journey through Sri Lanka.

Mirissa - Deniyaya (Rainforest)

You will leave the southern coast behind and ride back into the mountains. As you ascend, rice fields will first appear, followed by tea plantations, the roads will become narrower, and the climate cooler. After about three hours, you will reach your accommodation in Sinharaja Rain Forest National Park - a rainforest full of birds, monkeys, and plants. Pure nature on your Sri Lanka motorcycle journey. (100 km)

Deniyaya - Kitulgala / 220 km

After breakfast with tropical sounds, you will continue through the mountain and forest area before descending through beautiful hairpin bends. After a stretch on the main road, you will turn towards Kitulgala, which is located in hilly, forested terrain. Your open cottages are right by the river. A longer enduro day in Sri Lanka. (220 km)

Kitulgala - Negombo (Rafting)

Kitulgala is known for rafting - if you wish, you can brave the rough waters. After lunch, you will start the engines one last time towards Negombo. You will avoid traffic on side roads and reach the hotel where this motorcycle tour through Sri Lanka began. In the evening, you will conclude the journey together with a nice meal. (90 km)

Negombo - Departure & Journey Home

Unfortunately, every journey must come to an end. You will be taken by taxi to Colombo Airport. Depending on your flight time, you may arrive back in Germany on the same day. What remains are the memories of a varied enduro journey through Sri Lanka, between temples, tea hills, national parks, and the coast.
