This motorcycle tour through Peru takes you from Lima to Cusco and Machu Picchu, the heart of the ancient Inca Empire.
The Journey
From the vibrant coastal metropolis of Lima to the "navel of the world" in Cusco: This Lima Cusco motorcycle tour takes you along the Pan-American Highway, up into the Andes and to the most famous sites of Peru. You will fly over the Nazca Lines, reach Machu Picchu, and observe sea lions and penguins on the Ballestas Islands. Between the coast and over 4,700 meters in height, new landscapes constantly await you. Around 2,300 kilometers of riding fun on the Yamaha Ténéré 700, tailored for experienced riders.
Welcome to Peru! After arriving at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, our transfer will take you to the hotel. The first evening of your motorcycle tour through Peru is yours to arrive and acclimatize, ideal for resting after the long flight before the Andes call.
To kick things off, you explore Lima, the cultural center of Peru with its UNESCO World Heritage old town. Highlights of the city tour include the Plaza de Armas and the Presidential Palace. Before the Lima to Cusco motorcycle tour really begins, you get a feel for the history, cuisine, and rhythm of the Peruvian capital. (Entries on site.)
On the Panamericana, you roll south. In Ica, you visit the desert oasis Huacachina, framed by palm trees and huge sand dunes. The first kilometers of your Peru Andes motorcycle tour take you along the Pacific coast, where the sea and desert meet closely and the landscape constantly changes.
About 150 kilometers further on the Pan-American Highway you reach Nasca. From here, you can optionally take off in a small plane and view the mysterious Nasca lines from the air. This stage of the Nasca lines motorcycle tour is one of the most impressive moments of the journey when figures like a hummingbird and a monkey can be seen below you. (Flight can be booked on-site with us.)
Today we go up into the Andes. On the 460-kilometer leg, you will cross the Pampa Galeras nature reserve with its herds of vicuñas and reach altitudes of over 4,500 meters. This section of the Andes motorcycle trip in Peru challenges you with thin air and vast puna landscapes, but rewards you with magnificent views.
About 200 kilometers will take you to Cusco, the ancient Inca capital, whose name means "navel of the world." The Andean city is full of history and charm. For many, this day is the highlight of the Cusco motorcycle tour, when cobbled streets and colonial squares appear before you for the first time.
Today the motorcycles are resting. By bus you will travel to Ollantaytambo and then by train to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night very close to Machu Picchu. Even without a motorcycle, this day of your motorcycle tour Peru Machu Picchu remains exciting, as the Sacred Valley of the Incas passes by with its terraces and mountain villages.
Early in the morning, you take the first bus up to the world-famous ruins of Machu Picchu and immerse yourself in the world of the Incas. The visit to this wonder of the world is the highlight of any Machu Picchu motorcycle tour, terraced slopes, temples, and the view over the Urubamba Valley will long be remembered. (Admission on site, not included.)
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
The day in Cusco belongs to you. Museums, churches, and the many restaurants around the Plaza invite you to explore and linger, just according to your taste. This break on the motorcycle tour of Peru gives you time to enjoy the altitude and gather strength for the return trip through the Andes.
On winding 340 kilometers you drive to Andahuaylas, a typical Andean city at 2,900 meters in the valley of the Río Chumba. The way back is one of the most beautiful sections of this motorcycle tour through Peru, with endless hairpin bends, green valleys, and hardly any traffic away from the major routes.
Further to Ayacucho. Away from the tourist streams, you will experience the "real" Peru over approximately 230 kilometers before you reach your destination for today. This stage of the motorcycle journey Peru Cusco passes through villages and highlands, where traditions are still alive and hospitality is highly valued.
Over the airy pass Abra Apacheta at 4,746 meters, you go back to the coast. After about 360 kilometers, you reach the relaxed Paracas. This high-altitude stage is a highlight of the Peru Andes motorcycle tour, as narrow serpentine roads and wide views of the snow-covered peaks accompany you.
In the morning, you visit the Ballestas Islands with sea lions, penguins, and seabirds, almost like in Galapagos. In the afternoon, you explore the Paracas National Park by motorcycle. This day of the motorcycle tour in Peru combines wildlife and desert coast and shows a completely different side of the country. (Boat tour on site, not included in services.)
On the last approximately 255 kilometers of the Pan-American Highway, you return to Lima, with a motorcycle bag full of impressions. Thus, the riding part of your Lima Cusco motorcycle tour ends where it began – with a final view of the Pacific and the vibrant capital.
Transfer to the airport and return flight. Until next time, Peru! As a conclusion to this Machu Picchu motorcycle tour, you take home pictures of the Andes, coast, and Inca sites. We hope to welcome you again soon on one of our tours.
