The Journey

On two wheels through the Andes to the sites of the Incas

This motorcycle trip in Peru focuses equally on riding pleasure, nature, and culture. Starting from Lima, we roll along the Pacific coast on the Panamericana southward, climb up to the Andes highlands, and reach classics like the Nazca Lines, the white city of Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with the Uros Islands, the Inca capital Cusco, and of course Machu Picchu. The trip is intended for experienced motorcyclists; off-road experience is not necessary. Look forward to around 2,000 kilometers of true South America, on the agile Yamaha Ténéré 700.

Days 1–15

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! After arriving at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, our transfer will take you to the hotel in the Miraflores district. The rest of the day is yours to rest and acclimatize.

City tour Lima

To kick things off, we explore Lima, the metropolis of millions and city of kings. On a city tour, we see the viewpoint of San Cristóbal, the Plaza de Armas, and the Presidential Palace in the UNESCO center. (Entrances on site.)

Over the Pan-American Highway to Nasca

The first major stage rolls south along the Pan-American highway. Passing the Pacific coast and the desert oasis Huacachina near Ica, we reach the city of Nasca after approximately 450 kilometers.

Nasca Lines and Puerto Inka

In the morning, you optionally take off in a small plane and view the famous Nasca lines from above. Afterwards, we roll about 165 kilometers further to the idyllic bay of Puerto Inka. (Flight on site.)

To Arequipa

A long stage of about 400 kilometers leads up to Arequipa, Peru's second largest city. Its nickname "white city" comes from the Sillar, a light volcanic rock from which many buildings are made.

Arequipa and Santa Catalina

Today we explore Arequipa and visit the Santa Catalina Monastery from the 16th century, a small town within the city with its own alleys and baroque architecture. The afternoon is free for you.

To Puno at Lake Titicaca

About 310 kilometers up into the highlands to Puno on Lake Titicaca. At over 4,000 meters, the picture-book Peru reveals itself with herds of vicuñas, alpacas, and llamas by the roadside.

Lake Titicaca and Uros Islands

By boat, we go to the floating reed islands of the Uros, built once for protection against attackers. Afterwards, we visit the island of Taquile in the deep blue Lake Titicaca. (Boat tour on site.)

  • Machu Picchu, the Nasca Lines, Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with the Uros Islands, the Sacred Valley and Cusco.
  • Travelers from the EU and Switzerland need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the departure date. No visa is required for stays of up to 90 days.
  • Check the standard vaccinations and refresh them if necessary. A hepatitis A vaccination is additionally recommended for Peru. For personal advice, it is best to consult your family doctor or a travel medicine specialist.
  • Yes. We will meet you in the arrivals hall and are easily recognizable. Please do not leave the hall before we have found each other. We track your flight online and respond to changes in arrival time.
  • Check if your health and accident insurance is also valid abroad, and supplement it if necessary with trip cancellation, repatriation, and legal protection. Make sure it’s valid worldwide and note the emergency numbers.

  • In larger towns and mostly on the route, you will have reception. Affordable travel rates are worthwhile; clarify this in advance with your provider. Most hotels offer free Wi-Fi.
  • The roads vary, but usually surprise our participants positively. Tolls apply on main roads, from which motorcycles are often exempt. We indicate the off-road percentage in the travel program.
  • The risks depend on the stage. Daily briefings reduce the risk of accidents. Traffic in large cities is lively, and animals roam freely in the countryside. We recommend defensive driving, full protective gear, and zero blood alcohol.
  • In larger cities like Lima, Arequipa, and Cusco, there are well-equipped clinics. In rural areas, care is limited. A comprehensive travel insurance with an emergency number is mandatory for this long-distance trip.
  • There is no fixed best time since Peru has several climate zones. In the highlands, April to October is ideal because it rains little then. We align our tour calendar according to climate and weather.
  • At altitude, headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath may occur. Our stages are designed for slow acclimatization. Drinking plenty, coca tea, and 'Sorojchi' tablets help. We carry an oximeter and blood pressure monitor.
  • For this tour of approximately 2,000 kilometers, you can budget about 80 euros for fuel. Fuel is purchased per gallon (3.8 liters), paid in cash or by card.
  • You will ride this trip on the Yamaha Ténéré 700, a lightweight and off-road capable travel enduro with real rally character. It handles asphalt and gravel with confidence and is well-suited for this Andean tour.
  • In the support vehicle, there is usually only one seat (maximum two) available. It is allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.
  • Yes, that is easily possible and is a lot of fun for many participants. Everything is organized just as well as for the motorcycle group. We are happy to create offers for 2 to 6 people.
