The Journey

On two wheels through the Andes to the sites of the Incas

On this motorcycle trip in Peru, driving fun, nature, and culture are equally in focus. From Lima, we ride along the Pacific coast via the Pan-American Highway to the south, climb into the Andean highlands, and reach classics such as the Nazca Lines, the white city of Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with the Uros islands, the Inca capital of Cusco, and of course Machu Picchu. The trip is intended for experienced motorcyclists; off-road experience is not necessary. Look forward to around 2,000 kilometers of real South America, on the agile Yamaha Ténéré 700.

Days 1–15

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! After arriving at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, our transfer will take you to the hotel in the Miraflores district. The rest of the day is yours to rest and acclimate.

City tour Lima

To kick things off, we explore Lima, the metropolis of millions and the City of Kings. On a city tour, we see the San Cristóbal viewpoint, the Plaza de Armas, and the Presidential Palace in the UNESCO center. (Entry fees on-site.)

On the Pan-American Highway to Nasca

The first major stage rolls down the Pan-American Highway. Passing the Pacific coast and the desert oasis of Huacachina near Ica, we reach the city of Nasca after about 450 kilometers.

Nazca Lines and Inca Port

In the morning, you optionally take off in a small plane and view the famous Nazca lines from above. We then drive about 165 kilometers to the idyllic cove of Puerto Inka. (Flight on site.)

After Arequipa

A long stage of about 400 kilometers leads up to Arequipa, Peru's second-largest city. Its nickname "white city" comes from the sillar, a light volcanic stone from which many buildings are constructed.

Arequipa and Santa Catalina

Today we explore Arequipa and visit the 16th-century Santa Catalina Monastery, a small city within the city with its own streets and Baroque architecture. The afternoon is free for you.

To Puno on Lake Titicaca

About 310 kilometers up into the highlands to Puno on Lake Titicaca. At over 4,000 meters, the picture-perfect Peru is revealed with herds of vicuñas, alpacas, and llamas by the roadside.

Lake Titicaca and Uros Islands

By boat, we go to the floating reed islands of the Uros, built for protection against attackers. Afterwards, we visit Taquile Island in the deep blue Lake Titicaca. (Boat tour on site.)

  • Machu Picchu, the Nazca Lines, Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with the Uros Islands, the Sacred Valley, and Cusco.
  • Travelers from the EU and Switzerland need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the departure date. A visa is not required for stays of up to 90 days.
  • Check the standard vaccinations and refresh them if necessary. For Peru, a hepatitis A vaccination is additionally recommended. For personal advice, it’s best to talk with your family doctor or a travel medicine specialist.
  • Yes. We will meet you in the arrivals hall and are easily recognizable. Please do not leave the hall before we have met. We track your flight online and respond to changes in arrival time.
  • Check whether your health and accident insurance also applies abroad, and supplement it if necessary with trip cancellation, repatriation, and legal protection. Ensure worldwide validity and note the emergency numbers.

  • Yes. You need both your national and international driver's license. Make sure to check the validity of both documents before departure.
  • In larger towns, and usually also along the route, you have reception. Affordable travel rates are worthwhile; clarify this in advance with your provider. Most hotels offer free Wi-Fi.
  • The roads vary, but typically surprise our participants positively. Toll is charged on main roads, which motorcycles are often exempt from. We specify the off-road percentage in the travel program.
  • The risks depend on the stage. Daily briefings lower the accident risk. Traffic in large cities is lively, and animals roam freely in the countryside. We recommend defensive driving, full protective gear, and zero alcohol.
  • In larger cities like Lima, Arequipa, and Cusco, there are well-equipped clinics. In rural areas, the care is limited. A comprehensive travel insurance with an emergency number is mandatory for this long-distance trip.
  • There is no fixed best time since Peru has several climate zones. In the Andean highlands, April to October is ideal because it rains little then. We schedule our tour calendar according to climate and weather.
  • At high altitudes, headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath can occur. Our segments are designed for slow adaptation. Drinking plenty of fluids, coca tea, and “Sorojchi” tablets help. We carry an oximeter and blood pressure monitor.
  • For this tour of about 2,000 kilometers, you can budget around 80 euros for fuel. Fuel is purchased per gallon (3.8 liters), paid in cash or by card.
  • You will ride the Yamaha Ténéré 700 on this trip, a lightweight and off-road-capable touring enduro with real rally character. It handles asphalt and gravel confidently and is perfect for this Andean tour.
  • Typically, there is only one seat (a maximum of two) available in the support vehicle. It is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Yes, this is easily possible and many participants enjoy it greatly. Everything is organized just as well for the car group as it is for the motorcycle group. We would be happy to create offers for 2 to 6 people.
