The Journey

Round trip in the land of the Baobabs

This journey begins in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. You travel southwest to Miandrivazo passing Antsirabe, the water city. Afterwards, you embark on a river cruise on the Tsiribihina River. The journey continues to Bekopaka to admire the peaks of the Tsingy de Bemaraha. The round trip then ends in Morondava on the western coast of Madagascar, where the famous Avenue of the Baobabs can be found. Afterwards, you fly back to Antananarivo. Filled with new memories and photos, you head home after a pleasant stay in Madagascar.

After arriving at Ivato International Airport (TNR), you will be taken to the hotel where you will spend the night.

Travel Day 2: Antananarivo - Antsirabe the Water City (170 km / 3 hrs.)

We continue our journey early in the morning to Antsirabe and visit along the way in the city of rocks, Ambatolampy, a foundry that produces all sorts of items made of aluminum. Here, pots and other cookware are mainly produced, with which the Malagasy cook daily. After a relaxed lunch on-site, we continue our journey until we arrive at the hotel in Antsirabe.

Today we will take a rickshaw after breakfast to an artist's workshop, where decorative art objects are created from the horns of zebus. After that, we will continue westward to the village of Miandrivazo, which is the starting point for the river cruise.

Early in the morning we head to the docking place from where we go on a river cruise. When the journey begins and you watch the fishermen on the riverbank fishing, time seems to stand still. After a few relaxing hours on the boat, we arrive at the campsite where we set up our tents. Here it is quiet and you hear nothing but the silence of the night.

After a beautiful quiet night in the tent, we continue our journey on the Tsiribihina after breakfast today. At the riverbank, you can observe the herons, and after a few quiet kilometers, we pass by an impressive waterfall. The clear water invites you to bathe, and the lemurs watch us from the trees. We continue our journey until we arrive at our campsite, where we pitch our tents again and wind down the evening by the riverbank.

Travel day 6: Final destination of the river cruise in Belo

We continue the journey on the water and arrive in Belo on the Tsiribihina around noon. The river trip is over and new adventures are already waiting for us. We switch from water to land and thus drive along the red track through various villages. In the late afternoon, we arrive at the hotel in Bekopaka, the starting point for our visit to the Bemaraha National Park.

Travel Day 7: Trekking through the Tsingy of Bemaraha

Today we visit the Tsingy limestone massif of Bemaraha, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990. The sharp 30-meter high peaks of the massif, together with the flora and fauna, create an impressive scenery. In the afternoon, we will take a tour with a pirogue through the gorges of Manambolo and explore the caves before we return to our hotel.

After breakfast, we leave the Tsingys and continue our journey to Morondava. In the evening twilight, we arrive at the 'Avenue of the Baobabs' where we enjoy the sunset through these majestic trees.

Travel Day 9: Rest day at leisure in Morondava

The day today is at your disposal, so you can stroll through the city or relax by the sea.

Travel Day 10: Return Flight to Antananarivo

Depending on the departure time, you will be taken today to the airport of Morondava from where you will fly back to Antananarivo. Upon arrival, you will be picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel.

This morning we will visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ambohimanga and immerse ourselves in the history of Madagascar, and anyone who wants to buy a souvenir or two is in the right place.

Today, unfortunately, it's time to say goodbye to Madagascar. Packed full of great memories and photos, they are taken to the airport from where they will head home.
