This motorcycle trip through Franconian Switzerland takes you through one of the curviest regions of Germany in 5 days. From a fixed tour hotel in the Wiesent Valley, we set out for three guided day tours in the triangle between Nuremberg, Bamberg, and Bayreuth.

Franconian Switzerland is a motorcycle area that doesn't require much searching. Between Nuremberg, Bamberg, and Bayreuth lies a landscape of narrow valleys, Jura rocks, dripstone caves, and medieval castles, interspersed with small rural roads that hardly know a straight kilometer. The region owes its name to travel writers of the 19th century, who found the then Muggendorfer Gebürg reminiscent of Switzerland.
We stay at the same tour hotel throughout the entire trip and take three day trips to the surrounding area from there. This means: no daily hotel changes, no packing of suitcases, luggage stays in the room, and you ride lightly loaded. The stages of about 225 km do not pose exaggerated demands on cornering technique, but allow enough room for viewpoints, caves, castles, and a generous stop at a beer garden.

Arrival and tour briefing
Individual arrival at the tour hotel in the heart of Franconian Switzerland, arrival by 6:00 PM. During the tour briefing, we get to know each other and go through all the important information for the driving days. Afterwards, we tune in to the tour during a joint dinner. Those arriving by their own car can park it at the hotel for the duration of the trip.
Muggendorfer Mountains and Devil's Cave
The first day of the trip leads through the so-called Muggendorfer Gebürg, those mountains, valleys, and rocks that gave the region its name in the 19th century. Between the tracks of the Franconian Steam Railway and the Wiesent creek, we curve through the valley to Pottenstein, which presents itself as a panorama from above.
Next, we head to the Hohenmirsberger Platte, the highest elevation of the Franconian Jura, whose observation platform at a height of 22 meters opens up panoramic views. Then the medieval castle Rabenstein on the Castle Road and the Devil's Cave, the largest of the approximately 1,000 caves in the region. Finally, a stop at Kathis Bräu in Aufseß, the most famous biker meeting point in Upper Franconia. Approximately 220 km.
Würgau Pass, Kulmbach and Ellerberg
Today we are heading north to Kulmbach. To warm up, the Würgau Pass, a mountain racing track with over a hundred years of history, where races with historical motorcycles are still held today. Then the Kleinziegenfelder Valley, where the stream Weismain accompanies us between mighty rock faces and dry grass slopes.
In Kulmbach, the Plassenburg awaits, once a Hohenzollern fortress and to this day the landmark of the margrave city. After lunch in its shadow, the route leads to the Ellerberg racetrack on the eastern edge of the Bamberg basin, whose curves from the 1960s and 1970s still provide driving pleasure today. Bamberg and Steigerwald
The last day of travel belongs to the Steigerwald. The first destination is Bamberg with the largest historical city center in Germany, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. During a city tour, we dive into over a thousand years of history at the Regnitz, after which there will be time for a coffee in the old town.
The following route constantly changes its character: green valleys, mountain tops, small markets and hamlets, winding mountain roads and gently curved side roads. At the southern foothills of the Steigerwald, the forest loosens up and the landscape opens up to the growing area of Franconian wine. In the evening, Franconian cuisine at the tour hotel. About 230 km.
Departure day
After a last joint breakfast, it is time to say goodbye. Each person makes their own way home, carrying memories of four days of curves, castles, and Franconian hospitality.

It is aimed at advanced riders with touring experience and good cornering technique. The ride takes place on paved country roads in good to satisfactory condition, partly on winding and narrow sections. With around 225 km per day, the tour remains pleasantly relaxed.

The total distance is about 670 km, spread over three guided riding days with 220 to 230 km each. The pure driving time is up to 9 hours per day, including lunch breaks, coffee breaks, and photo stops.

No, we leave every day from the same tour hotel in the Wiesenttal area and return there in the evening. Luggage stays in the room, you ride the day tours lightly loaded.

Up to 10 motorcycles per group plus guide, a maximum of two groups running in parallel. The minimum number of participants is 6 people. We form groups based on riding level, riding experience, and motorcycle type to ensure the pace suits everyone.

No support vehicle travels with us on this tour. Since we operate from a fixed location, your luggage stays in the hotel room anyway. We recommend a roadside assistance service that is activated in case of breakdown or accident. It is often already included in your insurance or automobile club.

Yes, there are parking spaces available at the tour hotel for the duration of the trip. Upon request, we can also arrange a place to park a motorcycle trailer.

This trip is well-suited for passengers. The stages are moderate, with many stops at castles, caves, and viewpoints, as well as a city tour in Bamberg. A separate travel price applies for passengers.
