Botswana

The okavango delta tour begins in Botswana, crossing from South Africa through the Kalahari and into the delta waterways, Moremi Game Reserve and the Savuti corridor.

Days 1–6

Johannesburg – Kalahari Gateway

Leaving Johannesburg behind, the group drives northwest through the North West Province and crosses the border into Botswana. The Trans-Kalahari Highway carries the truck to the first campsite, where the botswana camping safari rhythm begins. Meals: lunch, dinner.

Kalahari – Ghanzi San Community

The route pushes deeper into the Central Kalahari to a camp in the Ghanzi district, where a San community evening introduces traditional song, dance and storytelling. This is one of the most distinctive cultural moments of the group overland safari africa itinerary. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: San cultural dance evening. Optional: guided bush walk.

Ghanzi – Greater Moremi Area

An early start brings the group to Maun, where personal bags are repacked for two nights away from the main truck. Optional scenic flights over the delta are available on arrival. Smaller 4x4 safari vehicles then transfer everyone into the Greater Moremi Game Reserve area, where the guide briefs the group on the mokoro excursion ahead. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Optional: scenic flight over the Okavango Delta.

Okavango Delta – Mokoro & Moremi Safari

This is the heart of the okavango delta tour. Polers guide the group through narrow reed-lined channels that open into broad lagoons, with elephant, giraffe, kudu and zebra visible along the water's edge. After lunch, a 4x4 afternoon drive through Moremi Game Reserve searches the grasslands and acacia woodland for predators. The mokoro safari okavango is the defining experience of the Botswana stage. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: morning mokoro excursion, afternoon Moremi game drive.

Savuti Game Reserve – Full-Day Safari

The truck moves east through the Savuti Game Reserve, a corridor between the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park that holds some of the highest wildlife concentrations in southern Africa. Open grassland, wetland pockets and savanna woodland are traversed throughout the day in search of elephant, lion, wild dog and cheetah. By afternoon the group reaches Kasane on the Chobe River. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: full-day 4x4 safari in Savuti.

Chobe National Park Safari

The chobe national park safari runs in two parts. An optional early-morning 4x4 game drive covers the floodplain roads before returning to camp for lunch. In the afternoon, an included boat cruise drifts along the Chobe River as large elephant herds come down to drink and bathe — one of the most reliable wildlife spectacles in Africa. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: Chobe River boat cruise. Optional: morning 4x4 game drive.

Zimbabwe

The victoria falls safari tour stage crosses into Zimbabwe for three days at the Zambezi, with the full force of the falls and a range of optional adventure activities.

Days 7–9

Victoria Falls – Arrival

After crossing the border into Zimbabwe, the truck covers the short distance to Victoria Falls. The afternoon is free to visit the falls — locally known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, the Smoke that Thunders — and watch the Zambezi River drop into the Batoka Gorge below. Craft markets and cafes are nearby for those wanting a quieter afternoon. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Optional: visit to Victoria Falls, sunset Zambezi cruise, bungee jump, helicopter flight, white-water rafting.

Victoria Falls – Adventure Day

A full day in the victoria falls safari tour zone. The falls themselves draw visitors back for a second look as the light shifts across the gorge through the morning. Optional activities fill the afternoon: white-water rafting on Class V rapids, a Zambezi sunset cruise, bungee jumping from the bridge or a helicopter flight over the falls and gorge. Meals: breakfast. Optional: Victoria Falls visit, Zambezi sunset cruise, bungee, helicopter, rafting.

Victoria Falls – Free Day

A third day in Victoria Falls gives the group flexibility to choose the adventure that fits best. Rafting on the Zambezi, a return visit to the falls or a relaxed morning at the craft market all work. The victoria falls to zanzibar tour continues north tomorrow, so this is the last chance for the adrenaline options. Meals: breakfast. Optional: all activities available from Days 7–8.

Zambia

The zambia safari tour stage covers the drive from Victoria Falls through Lusaka and east to South Luangwa National Park, one of Africa's top wildlife destinations.

Days 10–13

Victoria Falls – Lusaka

An early departure from Victoria Falls crosses the border into Zambia. The drive to Lusaka is long, but the roadside scenery shifts through colourful markets, busy villages and rural farmland as the truck moves northeast. The group arrives in the Lusaka outskirts for a prepared evening meal and a briefing on the days ahead. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: view of Victoria Falls from the bridge.

Lusaka – Petauke

The truck passes through Lusaka and turns east on the Great East Road toward Petauke, crossing the Luangwa River en route. Villages and subsistence farms line the road, and the contrast with the delta wetlands earlier in the trip is striking. Petauke sits close to the Malawi border and marks the gateway to the zambia safari tour parks. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

South Luangwa – Arrival & Chipata

The morning stop is Chipata, home to Tribal Textiles, a workshop where local women create fabric art from recycled poacher snare wire — a visit available March through December. The route then follows the Luangwa River to the park boundary, arriving in time for a sundowner on the riverbank as hippos surface nearby. The south luangwa safari begins at dusk. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: Tribal Textiles workshop visit.

South Luangwa National Park

A full day in South Luangwa National Park — a world-class south luangwa safari destination of mopane and miombo woodland along the Luangwa River. The afternoon 4x4 sunset drive includes a sundowner stop, and the night drive that follows gives access to leopard, civets and other nocturnal species rarely seen during daylight hours. Optional morning game drives and seasonal walking safaris (April–December) are available. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: sunset and night game drive. Optional: morning drive or walking safari.

Malawi

The lake malawi tour segment covers three days on the southern and central shores of the lake, Africa's third-largest, with clear water, snorkeling and village life.

Days 14–16

Zambia – Lake Malawi

Crossing into Malawi, the truck heads for the western shore of Lake Malawi — the southernmost lake in the East African Rift system, stretching 500 km along the country's border and holding more fish species than any other lake on Earth. The first night on the lakeshore begins the lake malawi tour stage. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Lake Malawi – Beach Day

A full rest day on the lakeshore for this malawi lake safari stage. Swimming, snorkeling among colourful cichlids, kayaking and simply reading in the shade are all available. The lake's warm, clear water and sandy beach make this a welcome contrast after the overland driving days. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Lake Malawi – Village Walk North

The truck moves north along the lake's western shore, passing fishing villages and small market towns before making camp at a second lakeshore site. In the afternoon the guide leads a walk through a nearby village, explaining local fishing methods and daily life on the Lake Malawi lakeshore. A sunset from the beach closes the day. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: guided village walk.

Tanzania

The overland tour east africa section covers the highlands near Mbeya, Iringa and the Mikumi National Park before reaching Dar es Salaam and the ferry to Zanzibar.

Days 17–24

Lake Malawi – Mbeya Highlands

Leaving the lakeshore, the truck climbs toward the Mbeya highlands and the Utengule Coffee Lodge, set among coffee and tea plantations at altitude. The change in landscape from lake to highland is immediate. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Mbeya – Iringa, Tanzania

A stop at a local coffee plantation before the border crossing into Tanzania. Workers demonstrate how coffee cherries are harvested and processed, and fresh beans can be bought directly. The overland tour east africa route then climbs the Great Rift Valley escarpment and heads east to Iringa for the night. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: coffee plantation visit.

Iringa – Mikumi National Park

The day's drive passes through Mikumi National Park, Tanzania's fourth-largest park and part of a 75,000 sq km wilderness linked to the Selous reserve. An optional game drive inside the park searches for elephant, giraffe, zebra and lion in the open Mkata floodplain. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Optional: Mikumi National Park game drive.

Mikumi – Dar es Salaam

The final overland day of the zanzibar safari tour route brings the truck into Dar es Salaam, Tanzania's coastal capital. The evening is free to explore the city or rest before the early ferry departure tomorrow. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Ferry – Stone Town, Zanzibar

An early departure catches the ferry from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar Island. On arrival, the group transfers to a hotel in Stone Town, the UNESCO-listed old quarter of narrow lanes, carved doorways and Persian-Arab architecture that traces the island's position on the Indian Ocean spice trade. The tanzania zanzibar tour island stage begins. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: Zanzibar excursion.

Stone Town – Spice Tour – Nungwi

A guided spice tour leads through village plantations where cloves, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg grow, and workers demonstrate how each crop is harvested. The group then drives north to Nungwi on the island's tip, a base for the next two nights with snorkeling, diving and ocean safaris available. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner. Included: Prison Island boat trip and spice tour. Optional: diving, fishing, turtle sanctuary, village tours.

Nungwi – Beach and Ocean Activities

A free day in Nungwi on the zanzibar safari tour finale. The clear Indian Ocean water suits snorkeling, diving and ocean safari excursions. Renting a scooter to explore the northern tip of the island is a popular option. The beach and a quiet afternoon close the day. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.

Zanzibar – Dar es Salaam

A morning in Stone Town to visit the market and take a final walk through the historic quarter. The ferry returns the group to Dar es Salaam, where the botswana to zanzibar safari concludes on arrival. Meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner.
