ADVENTURE-TOURS · ZIMBABWE
Zimbabwe safari travel at its most complete: this 11-day Zimbabwe camping and lodge safari takes you from the thunder of Victoria Falls through two national parks and on to the ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe before crossing into South Africa.
The Journey
Zimbabwe
Five days of zimbabwe safari travel through national parks, UNESCO heritage sites, and the country's dramatic south.
The Zimbabwe safari starts in the west as the group departs from Victoria Falls — a victoria falls safari tour entry point known locally as 'Mosi-oa Tunya' — and drives south to Hwange National Park. Hwange is Zimbabwe's largest national park at 14,650 square kilometers and one of Africa's biggest wildlife reserves. The drive covers the first leg of this zimbabwe camping and lodge safari, with an overnight stay in camp on arrival. Included: entrance and guided visit to Victoria Falls.
A full day dedicated to the hwange national park safari. Guests travel through the park in open 4x4 vehicles on a guided wildlife drive in search of lions, elephants, zebras, wild dogs, and birds. The Big Five are resident in Hwange, and waterholes across the reserve attract concentrated herds during dry season. This is the core hwange safari experience of the entire zimbabwe tour packages route. Included: full-day game drive in Hwange National Park.
After breakfast, the group continues south toward Bulawayo, Zimbabwe's second-largest city. In the afternoon, a local guide leads an exploration of Matobo National Park — a matobo national park tour through 424 square kilometers of granite kopjes and dense bush. The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 and is one of the few reserves in southern Africa protecting both black and white rhinoceros. Included: afternoon game drive in Matopos National Park.
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
The group travels east to Masvingo and the ruins of Great Zimbabwe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating from the 11th to 15th centuries and the former capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe. A guided zimbabwe guided tour of the ruins covers the royal enclosure, stone walls, palaces, and temple structures built by the early Zimbabwean population. This stop anchors the cultural section of the zimbabwe safari holiday itinerary. Included: guided visit to the Great Zimbabwe Ruins.
South Africa
The final two days cross into South Africa for a thermal spring stop and the journey's end in Johannesburg.
Leaving Zimbabwe, the group crosses the Limpopo River and enters South Africa — completing the overland section of this victoria falls to johannesburg tour. The overnight stop is in Tshipise, a small town known for its natural thermal pools fed by water rising from 1,000 meters underground. Guests can soak in the mineral-rich pools and recover from the zimbabwe wildlife safari days before the final drive. Included: access to the Tshipise hot springs.
After breakfast, the group takes the highway south to Johannesburg, where the zimbabwe safari packages itinerary concludes on arrival. Johannesburg is South Africa's largest city and offers optional cultural visits including the Apartheid Museum. A traditional dinner at the Belvedere Estate Hotel is available upon request for those extending their zimbabwe travel experience.
