Days 1–5

Kigali – Akagera National Park

Arrival at Kigali International Airport, where our guide meets the group. Transfer drives directly east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda's largest savanna reserve. Check in to the lodge inside the park for an early night before the first full game drive day.

Akagera – Full Day Safari

A full day of the akagera national park safari with morning and afternoon game drives. The park holds elephants, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, hippos, lions, and a wide range of waterbirds across savanna, lakes, and wetlands. Relax at the lodge pool between drives.

Akagera – Musanze via Thousand Hills

After breakfast, drive west across Rwanda's terraced hill country toward Musanze, gateway to the Volcanoes National Park. The route passes farmland and gives the first clear views of the Virunga volcano range. Overnight near the park.

Musanze – Volcanoes National Park

Early departure to Volcanoes National Park for a briefing. Today's choice: track golden monkeys through bamboo forest, or hike the Dian Fossey Trail to her research site above 2,800 m — both routes are part of the wider gorilla trekking africa heritage of this region. Alternative option: a rest day at Lake Kivu with an optional boat excursion on the lake.

Musanze – Uganda Border – Bwindi

Early start for the drive to the Uganda border. Visa on arrival costs $50 USD. The road continues to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, arriving after roughly 4.5 hours depending on border conditions. This is the most biodiverse forest in East Africa and the base for tomorrow's gorilla trekking uganda experience. Overnight at the lodge adjacent to the park.

The Uganda section covers gorilla trekking in Bwindi, tree-climbing lions in Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth National Park boat safaris, chimpanzee trekking kibale in Kibale Forest, and lake mburo national park walking and boat tours.

Bwindi – Gorilla Trekking

The core of this gorilla trekking uganda itinerary: early briefing at the trailhead inside Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, then trackers lead the group through dense rainforest to the assigned gorilla family. Queen Elizabeth NP – Lion & Leopard Search

Full day on the queen elizabeth national park safari circuit. Morning and afternoon game drives cover open floodplains and forest edges in search of lions, leopards, elephants, and the park's tall euphorbia trees used as perches by birds of prey. Overnight at the lodge.

Queen Elizabeth – Kazinga Channel Boat

Morning game drive in the park, then an afternoon boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel linking Lakes George and Edward. Hippos, water buffaloes, herons, kingfishers, cormorants, and the African fish eagle are regularly seen from the boat on this gorilla and chimpanzee safari circuit. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Queen Elizabeth – Kibale Forest NP

Early morning game drive before heading north to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive passes through the Rwenzori foothills. Arrive at the lodge for lunch and an afternoon rest ahead of tomorrow's chimpanzee trekking kibale.

Kibale – Chimpanzee Tracking

After early breakfast, meet local guides at the Kibale Forest visitor centre for chimpanzee trekking kibale — initially on trails, then off-path through the forest. Late afternoon visit to Bigodi Wetland, a papyrus-rich habitat with red colobus monkeys, mangabeys, and over 200 bird species. Watch footing on the boardwalks, which can be slippery when wet.

Kibale – Lake Mburo National Park

Drive south toward Lake Mburo National Park. Before the park boundary, zebras graze alongside cattle near the road. Lake Mburo is the only Ugandan park where both plains zebras and eland antelopes are reliably found. This uganda safari tour concludes its wildlife circuit here. Check in for the evening.

Lake Mburo – Walking Safari & Boat Tour

Early morning walking safari inside Lake Mburo National Park guided by an armed ranger for roughly two hours on foot through mixed woodland. Breakfast at the lodge. Afternoon boat tour on the lake for hippos, crocodiles, waterbirds, and animals at the shore. A calm final full day for this gorilla trekking tour.

Lake Mburo – Entebbe – Departure

Final morning game drive in Lake Mburo National Park before lunch. Afternoon drive to Kampala and Entebbe for the late evening flight. If your departure is the following morning, an additional night can be arranged in Entebbe at extra cost. End of the gorilla trekking rwanda uganda circuit.
