Group trip Cape Town to Dar es Salaam - From the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean

We leave Cape Town and begin our great adventurous tour of Africa with a final stop for a look back at Table Mountain from Table Bay. Here there is the opportunity to enjoy homemade treats and baked goods at one of the farmers' stands (Pedstal) in the South African backroads. The Cederberg region offers not only spectacular mountains and orange farms but also the rooibos bush. This herbal drink, which is native to the slopes of the Cederberg, has gained an international reputation as a healthy and refreshing alternative to conventional tea. Dinner at our overnight stop offers us the opportunity to get to know each other while enjoying South African hospitality.

The Orange River (also known as Oranjierivier or Gariep River) was named after the Dutch royal house, but was known in earlier times by its original name Gariep, which simply means "river" in the indigenous KhoeKhoe language. The Orange River, which has its source in the Drakensberg mountains in Lesotho, is the longest river in South Africa at 2,200 kilometers and flows through large parts of South Africa, including desert landscapes along its banks, and empties into Namibia in the Atlantic Ocean. This morning we have the opportunity to join an optional canoe tour on the river, the best way to explore the river. Around noon we leave the Orange River and head north inland to our next overnight stop. In Ais Ais there is the possibility to relax the eventful day of our safari and Africa tour with a bath in the Ais Ais Hot Springs, a natural thermal spring with water warming up to 65 degrees.

Every round trip with breathtaking highlights has some long travel days, and today’s travel day is one of them. After breakfast, we embark on the long drive (during which we can watch the diverse desert landscape of Namibia pass by) to penetrate deeper into the Namib Desert. Our destination is the dune fields of the Namib-Naukluft Desert, which cover the western expanses of the desert and are among the most impressive dune landscapes in the world. Long dusty roads and sparsely populated farmland give us a glimpse into the vastness of rural Namibia. From the grasslands in the east to the red dunes of the west, the slowly changing landscapes represent the many faces of this desert land. Tonight we will camp in front of the dune fields and fall asleep to the unique calls of the elusive Barking Gecko.

We start our last day in the desert by joining a local expert for an educational desert tour. Afterwards, we leave the Namib Desert behind with countless memories and images in tow, and after a stop at the Tropic of Capricorn (also known as the southern tropic in the southern hemisphere), we continue on to the Atlantic coast. We make our way to the lively coastal town of Swakopmund, where adventure and a dose of civilization await us. Upon arriving in Swakopmund, we have the opportunity to book some of the many adventures. In the evening, a delicious dinner awaits us at a local restaurant.

Today, our adventure-packed tour of Africa continues. The path leads us north, where hot desert sand meets the cold waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Our guide visits the lichen fields with us and tells us about the lichen colonies. Lichen colonies are symbiotic communities made up of fungi and algae, serving as a food source for various animal species, such as snails, insects, and mammals. Afterwards, we continue to Cape Cross, where the famous seal colony with over 200,000 Cape fur seals can be observed. Cape Cross is also the place where the first European explorer set foot on the Namibian coast in 1486. After visiting Cape Cross, the path now leads away from the coast inland to the Khorixas area.

Today we have all day to experience safari in Etosha National Park. The Etosha National Park in northern Namibia, with an area of 22,270 square kilometers, is one of the largest national parks in Africa. Its wealth of animals, including elephants, lions, zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, and antelopes, makes Etosha National Park a very popular destination for safari tourists in southern Africa. A highlight of the park is the Etosha salt pan, which is usually very dry but fills with water after heavy rain and becomes an important habitat for many wildlife.

After breakfast, we leave the breathtaking Etosha National Park, which has been in existence since 1907 in northern Namibia, and continue our impressive African tour towards the Okavango River. During the drive, we will have an overnight stay in the town of Divundu, located in the Caprivi Strip and in a subtropical region.

The day begins for early risers with the option to take a flight over the Okavango Delta, allowing them to marvel at the morning activities of the breathtaking and diverse wilderness from the air. Afterwards, pickup will occur in small safari vehicles to the Khwai Conservation Area. The Khwai Conservation Area is a 2,000 square kilometer region managed by the local community. During the drive, the guide will provide information about what to expect in the afternoon while paddling a traditional Botswanan canoe through the Delta. For the next 2 nights, you will be separated from your luggage. A small bag with the necessary clothing, as well as important valuables and utensils, should be packed.

At daybreak, the adventure tour through southern Africa continues. First to Maun, where we will again switch to our Nomad Truck. From Maun, the journey goes through the Botswana salt pans, a picturesque landscape where encounters with wild animals can also occur. After arriving in Nata in the northeastern part of Botswana, there is a guided drive to the Nata pans, which are known as a breeding ground for numerous water birds and an important part of the ecosystem in northern Botswana. Here, for example, pelicans and flamingos can be observed, and migratory birds can also be found here.

After numerous and unforgettable safari experiences, today marks the crossing of the border into Zimbabwe. Upon arrival in the vibrant and culturally diverse city of Victoria Falls, there is not only the opportunity to explore the Victoria Falls, but also to participate in one of the many optional adventurous activities that the city has to offer. The Victoria Falls are considered the largest waterfalls in the world. They are not only a natural wonder but also hold cultural significance for the locals.

In the early morning, we leave the Zambian city of Livingstone, which is named after David Livingstone, the European explorer of the Victoria Falls. On our African tour, we are now leaving southern Africa and entering the East African part of our journey. Through the window of our truck, we get first glimpses of East African culture as we pass a backdrop of colorful markets, emerging African villages, and landscapes on our drive through Zambia. After arriving in Chirundu, we are greeted with a prepared local meal and a briefing from the tour guide about the coming days.

The day begins after breakfast with a drive through the lively Zambian capital Lusaka. Afterwards, we continue our African adventure journey towards Malawi. On the way along the Great East Road, the contrast of developmental differences between African cities, as well as developed European countries and the rural inland regions of Africa, offers us a unique insight into the cultural differences in the lifestyles of locals. On the further drive today, we make a stop at the Luangwa Market, a lively market where Zambian traders sell their goods. In addition to local delicacies and agricultural products, regional antiques that make good souvenirs are also offered.

After the eventful past days of our adventurous tour through Africa, today is again safari time. The South Luangwa National Park is located on the banks of the Luangwa River and covers an area of 9,050 square kilometers, housing a wealth of animal species. There is the possibility to participate in one of the optional morning safaris, while during the dry season (April to December), walking safaris are offered. In the afternoon, there will be a game drive with a stop for sunset and the subsequent opportunity to discover nocturnal species that are rarely seen during the day.

Today, during our exciting adventure trip through Africa, we have yet another day of relaxation. There is the possibility to sunbathe by the lake or, depending on the weather, to engage in one of the water activities. Additionally, a hike to the nearby Dwanbazi waterfall is possible, which offers a peak and a unique and breathtaking panorama.

After breakfast, our African adventure journey continues to the north of Malawi, to the Utengule Coffee Lodge. Here we will spend the next night.

After breakfast, our adventurous journey through Tanzania continues to Mikumi National Park. On the way, there will be a stop in the Baobab Valley, which offers a landscape with ancient and towering baobab trees. The trees create a breathtaking scene and cast a large shadow over the African savanna. Subsequently, we reach the 3,230 square kilometer Mikumi National Park, where in the afternoon there is an opportunity to explore the park as part of a game drive.

After breakfast, we take the ferry to Stone Town on the island of Zanzibar, where the final destination of our adventurous trip lies. Stone Town is a historic city with a rich history. The history dates back to the 19th century when the city was a significant trading center for slaves and spices.

At the end of this unique and breathtaking experience and safari tour, today is free for your own activities. In addition to relaxing on the beach and enjoying the sun, there are water sports options and many more activities.
