Balkan 4x4 Offroad is the name of this route through the southeast of Albania and northern Greece. The journey takes you over the Dajti mountain pass, through the Sopot nature reserve, and along the Osum gorge to the Pindos mountains.

Albania Greece Off-road Vehicle Tour

Are you ready for an off-road tour through Albania and Greece that takes you off the beaten path? The southeast of Albania offers you the opportunity to drive on roads that are usually only used by people who work in the forest, less by tourists, and even rarely by locals.

Next, we continue through wildly romantic mountain ranges into the national parks of Dosiko and Pindos, two of the most beautiful off-road areas in Europe. The special feature of this tour is the combination of the two countries, with two almost different structures of the route and the road conditions.

The mountains in northern Greece are rich in forests, lakes, and rivers. The rugged mountains offer unique panoramas and varied off-road tracks. Here you should be prepared for anything: steep mountain passages and deep forests with muddy ground.

Arrival in Tirana

The meeting point is the Palmanova Resort in Tirana. After the welcome, briefing, and a vehicle check, there will be time to organize the equipment and get to know the group. In the evening, the schedule for the upcoming nine off-road days will be discussed.

Dajti Pass, Elbasan and Gramsh

After a short drive on asphalt, it goes over the Dajti mountain pass directly onto a very nice off-road trail, with wide views of the Albanian mountains. The route continues into the Elbasan region to the remote Gramsh, surrounded by impressive mountain ranges and traditional villages.

Sopot, Valamara and Korça

The route through the Sopot nature reserve and the Valamara Mountains leads to Black Lake and Faqekuq Rock. The destination is the district of Korça, known for its cultural diversity and proximity to the Pindos Mountains near the Greek border.

Today you are moving to Greece and reaching the northern Pindos mountain range. High peaks, deep gorges, and wild rivers shape this remote landscape. A distinct change in the character of the route is immediately noticeable.

The section in the border area to Albania is strongly influenced by the weather: deep ruts, rocky steps, and dense forests alternate with open high plateaus. On the old military roads of this region, you are traveling in largely uninhabited terrain.

The Dosiko National Park and the Pindos National Park are among the most beautiful off-road areas of the route. In the evening, you will spend the night at a nature campsite, far away from road noise and light sources, with an unobstructed view of the Milky Way.

Metsovo and farewell dinner

The journey ends in the cozy mountain town of Metsovo at Hotel Asteri, surrounded by the peaks of Pindos. During the farewell dinner, you will reflect on the past stages before individual departures take place.

  • What is included in the price of this Balkan 4x4 off-road tour?
    Included are travel organization and tour planning, a knowledgeable multilingual guide, three nights in hotels, guesthouses, or inns in double rooms, seven nights of camping, nine days of guided off-road tour, one additional passenger in the vehicle, technical support, and the farewell dinner on the last evening.
  • Are meals included on the way?
    No. Other meals are not included. We pass through villages every three days where we can stock up on fresh provisions and fuel. Only the shared farewell dinner on the last evening is included.
  • What vehicle do I need?
    You drive your own 4x4 off-road vehicle. It should be in good technical condition and have MT tires or very good AT tires. A recovery strap, tool kit, and shovel are included, a winch and a differential lock are advantageous.
  • How many vehicles go per group?
    The group drives with at least four and a maximum of six vehicles.
  • Do I need off-road experience?
    A valid driver's license is required. Off-road experience is an advantage. The routes in northern Greece are challenging, with steep mountain passages and deep forests with muddy terrain, so you should be prepared for anything.
  • Where do we stay overnight?
    You will stay in quaint, local guesthouses and beautiful nature campsites that hardly anyone has discovered so far. Three nights in double rooms are included in the price, and seven nights will be camping.
  • What is the best way to travel there?
    The ferries from Ancona to Durres in Albania or from Ancona to Igoumenitsa in Greece are recommended. The ferry costs are not included in the price.
  • Can the route change?
    The route and plan can be adjusted by the tour guide at any time depending on weather conditions, technical requirements of the vehicles, road conditions, or other reasons.
