Montenegro Travel and Vacation – Good to know

To travel to Montenegro, citizens of the EU, USA and many other countries do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days. For longer stays, you should apply for a visa in advance, which is available online or at the embassy. Check the visa regulations beforehand, as they can change.
The Podgorica Airport is the largest and offers the most international flights. Alternatively, you can use the Tivat Airport for tourist destinations on the coast. Both airports are well connected to popular destinations in Montenegro. Keep in mind that the transport connection from the airport to the cities varies.
The local currency is the Euro (EUR). Credit cards are accepted in many hotels and restaurants, but it is advisable to also carry cash, especially in rural areas. ATMs are widespread, but they should be fee-free. Make sure to always have some cash on hand.
Vaccinations are not mandatory, but Hepatitis A and Tetanus are recommended. Having travel insurance with comprehensive health coverage is highly advisable, as medical services can be expensive on site. Also check what coverage you need before traveling.
A European driver's license is sufficient for driving in Montenegro. Make sure your driver's license is valid. SIM cards are available in most shops and at the airport. Providers like T-Mobile or MTEL offer affordable data packages suitable for travelers. Don't forget to have your ID with you.
