Phnom Penh - Arrival & Tour Briefing

The transfer from Phnom Penh airport takes you to the hotel in the city center in about 45 minutes. At your first glimpse of the bustling activity of the capital, you gather your first impressions. At the hotel, you meet your tour guide and the other participants: He explains the traffic rules and discusses the upcoming stages of your motorcycle trip to Angkor Wat in detail. If there's time, you can explore the city. You end the evening in one of the cafés by the Mekong.

Phnom Penh to Kratie - Mekong Trails

Early in the morning, the varied stage begins. After about a kilometer, you take the ferry across the Mekong, thus avoiding the traffic chaos of Phnom Penh. On the other side, you travel along narrow paths and small roads. Along the river, you ride through villages and pass temples. In Kampong Cham, there is a Cambodian lunch. You visit the Han Chey Temple with a view of the Mekong before you cross the river again just before Kratie. This Khmer motorcycle tour shows you the real Cambodia.

Kratie to Kompong Thom - Off-road day

Back at the Mekong, you cross the river by ferry and begin a challenging stage of 190 kilometers on unpaved roads. The route takes you through rubber and fruit plantations as well as a landscape reminiscent of the African savanna. Bring enough water, as opportunities for a break are rare. Halfway, a wobbly bridge charges a toll. Back in civilization, there is a simple lunch by the roadside. If you have time, you stop at the overgrown temple ruins of Sambor Prei Kuk for a photo. A true off-road experience on the Khmer trails.

to Siem Reap - discover Angkor Wat

On the main road to Siem Reap, you soon turn onto gravel roads and country paths to visit villages and local markets. Coming from the south, you can already see the first temples of Angkor Wat. Siem Reap is one of the liveliest cities in Cambodia, with many restaurants and cafés. In the afternoon, you have time for the large temple complex: The Angkor Empire lasted over 600 years, during which more than 70 temples and palaces were built on 350 km². Your guide will advise you on which temples you shouldn't miss on this motorcycle trip to Angkor Wat.

Siem Reap to Battambang - Colonial City

After breakfast, you drive through the area of Angkor Wat towards Battambang and avoid the chaotic highway as much as possible. Until Sisophon, about 100 km from Siem Reap, Highway No. 6 is well-traveled. After Sisophon, there are major roadworks on Highway No. 5, partly a real chaos. You bypass them via smaller, unpaved roads. In Battambang, the country’s second-largest city, UNESCO-protected French colonial houses line the riverbank. A quieter stage of your Khmer motorcycle tour.

Cardamom Mountains - Offroad to Veal Veng

If it has rained recently, today will be a strenuous day: Crossing the Cardamom Mountains can become a muddy affair. Although Cambodia welcomes many travelers, few have discovered the Cardamom Mountains. The mountain range forms the border with Thailand and was long a stronghold of the Khmer Rouge. At first, the gravel roads are wide and flat; in the mountains, they become bumpier and narrower. Fields give way to tropical rainforest. You spend the night in a simple guesthouse in Veal Veng. You order food and drinks in advance. A highlight of every Cardamom Mountains motorcycle tour.

Veal Veng to Chi Phat - Jungle Trail

Even today, the path is challenging, especially when a rain shower transforms the red clay into a slippery surface. You take your time for this adventurous route through the green forest, far away from civilization. Along the way, there is an improvised lunch. Afterwards, you look out for the new concrete road that leads you to Chi Phat. If there's time, you might find a refreshing dip in a river. A true off-road day on the Khmer trails through the Cardamom Mountains.

Explore Chi Phat - Village & Nature

Today you stay in Chi Phat and explore the village and surroundings at your leisure. The day starts with a walk through rice fields and dense forest; perhaps you'll discover some local wildlife. In between, there is a picnic in the middle of nature. In the afternoon, you can participate in an eco-project or simply relax by the river before the day concludes with a cozy dinner in the village. A quiet rest day in the heart of the cardamom mountains, far from the usual Khmer trails.

Chi Phat to Phnom Penh - Return trip

The route from Chi Phat back to Phnom Penh takes you out of the dense jungle of the Cardamom Mountains into the bustling capital. After the quiet days in nature, the drive feels like a transition to another world: from remote paths to busy streets, until the first impressions of urban life appear. In Phnom Penh, your motorcycle journey to Angkor Wat comes to an end. On the day of departure, the transfer takes you back to the airport, with a final glance at the city.
