Panamerican Motorcycle Tour Central America

A guided motorcycle trip through Central America: In Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, there is everything the heart desires! Along the legendary Panamericana, our motorcycle adventure takes us through volcanic landscapes and tropical rainforests. Riding a motorcycle in summer temperatures under palm trees along the most beautiful beaches of the country, over rocky tracks, winding country roads up to the highlands of about 3400m altitude, river crossings, and past impressive smoking volcanoes and fantastic lagoons. Meanwhile, we get a breathtaking insight into the diversity of exotic wildlife, such as the howler monkey, agouti, iguanas, toucans, parrots, hummingbirds, and the poison dart frog.

Day 1 to 3: Honduras - San Pedro Sula - Lake Yohoa - Danli

After your arrival in the evening in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, you will be picked up and taken to the hotel in the city center, where you will spend your first night. The next morning, we will go over the tour again and hand over the rental motorcycles. After the motorcycle handover, the adventure begins, the legendary Pan-American Highway, we ride to Lake Yohoa, a deep blue mountain lagoon in the middle of the tropical rainforest. At the lakeside, we have the opportunity to strengthen ourselves in one of the many fish restaurants before we hit the road to the National Park Cerro Azul Meamber. On the edge of the mountain cloud forest, we will settle into our lodge for the night. The next morning we set off for the capital of the country, Tegucigalpa, and then continue to Danli, which is located in Honduras' most important tobacco growing region. The overnight stay will be in Danli.

Day 4 to 6: Matagalpa - Granada

After observing the women in a tobacco factory in Danli making the thick 'Churchill' cigars, we climb back onto our motorcycles and travel over mountainous asphalt roads into the tobacco growing area up to the border with Nicaragua and further to our sleeping place today in the Schwarzwaldhaus Selva Negra of a coffee baron of German origin. In the morning, we can take a tour of the finca here. Later we will reach the first volcano on the tour, the active Masaya in the national park of the same name in Nicaragua. In the language of the Chorotega Indians, the volcano is also called Popogatepe, the burning mountain. Afterwards, we ride down to the crater lagoon Apoyo with a wonderful view over the lake and to one of the oldest cities in America: Granada, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will spend the night in this beautiful colonial city.

Day 7 & 8: Panamericana - Curubande - Costa Rica - Playa Samara

On our enduros, we travel over the Pan-American Highway to the border of Costa Rica. Here, the entrance will take a little longer, which is why we detour about 70 km behind the border to the National Park Rincon de la Vieja and spend the night on a farm in Curubande. Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches are located on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula. A winding little asphalt road meanders from one palm-fringed bay to the next until we reach the small town of Samara in the afternoon, where we will spend the next two nights right by the palm beach. Samara offers a lot to spend a full day. The long beach is ideal for swimming and surfing. We also have the opportunity to take a day trip on small off-road routes.

Day 9 & 10: Puntarenas - Playa Dominical

After our second night in Samara, the journey continues on a wonderful track with several river crossings towards Montezuma, where we again meet a paved road. After a short rocky section, we reach the ferry from Playa Naranjo to Puntarenas. The ride takes about 1.5 hours and offers the opportunity to admire the wonderful surrounding island world until sunset. We will spend the night in the lively little port town of Puntarenas. Along the Pacific's west coast, we continue on a modern asphalt road towards the surfer paradise Playa Dominical in the south. Before we reach this, however, the road behind Quepos turns back into a winding country road. We will spend the night in a lodge by the beach.

Day 11 to 14: Orosi - Volcano Irazu - Volcano Arenal - Lake Arenal

Our journey takes us today from the coast to the highlands. There, in San Isidro del General, we also reach the Pan-American Highway again and cross at an altitude of 3000 meters the highest point in Central America: Cerro de la muerto! In a small mountain village called Orosi, opposite the volcano Irazu, we will spend the night in order to start the day trip to the Irazu volcano the next day. At 3432 meters, it is the highest volcano in Costa Rica. Its crater is over 300 meters deep and has a diameter of one kilometer. We will spend another night in Orosi, from where we will head north the next day through the hustle and bustle of the city of San Jose. Later that day, we reach Volcano Arenal, which is perhaps the most impressive and active volcano in Costa Rica. Even today, it still often spews smoke and ash clouds into the sky. At the foot of the volcano, we will spend the night in the tourist town of La Fortuna. There are many opportunities here, such as windsurfing, hot springs, and the hanging bridge. Furthermore, the largest inland lake in the country is in close proximity, which we can drive around on asphalt and donkey paths depending on the weather. Lake Arenal is located directly at the foot of the volcano and is surrounded by dense rainforest. We will spend a second night in La Fortuna.

Day 15 & 16: Nicaragua San Juan - Leon de los Caballeros

Over a rocky track, we set off early in the morning over Bijagua and Upala towards San Juan. Just before the border to Nicaragua, we again reach the Pan-American Highway. Here, we will need a bit of patience to re-enter in order to reach our room in the small tourist town of San Juan del Sur. The following day, we travel northwest towards Managua to the university town of Leon de los Caballeros. The Spanish influence from the colonial period can be seen here in many of the buildings and monuments.

Day 17 to 20: Honduras Nacaome - Lake Yohoa - San Pedro Sula

Via the legendary Pan-American Highway, we cross the border into Honduras today up to San Lorenzo. After a night in Nacaome, we travel over a winding asphalt road to Lake Yohoa. With a wonderful view of the mountains, the lagoon, and the tropical rainforest, we will spend the night here before we undertake a trip to the Pulhapanzak waterfall the next morning. This is one of the most beautiful in the country and offers the opportunity to bathe in the icy jungle lake above. You can descend along the steps by the cascade. Nearby, finds point to a former meeting place and a cultural site of the Mayas. In the afternoon, we head back to San Pedro Sula, where our journey began 19 days ago. Here we will return the motorcycles, have dinner together, and spend the night before the next day you will be taken to the airport by the tour operator.
