Our Tanzania motorcycle tours are built for experienced enduro riders. The 16-day Northern Tanzania Motorcycle Trip runs through technical off-road sections in the Eastern Arc Mountains and the Pare Mountains and is designed as an expert-level tour. The 13-day Offroad Trip Through East Africa also demands confident off-road skills, for example on the unpaved stretches around Lake Magadi and through Amboseli National Park. We currently don't offer a pure tarmac beginner tour in Tanzania: if you can ride standing up and handle loose surfaces with confidence, you're in the right place.
You ride one of our prepared rental machines, such as the Honda XLR 250, on both tours. Whether you can bring your own bike is something we discuss individually once you send your inquiry. The Northern Tanzania trip is the longer of the two at 16 days, while the Offroad Trip Through East Africa to the Indian Ocean runs 13 days, with daily stages that switch between short technical off-road sections in the mountains and steppe and longer stretches on firmer track.
A typical day starts with a stage briefing and GPS track, then you head out in small groups of up to 7 to 10 riders with a bilingual guide and a support vehicle carrying luggage and technical backup. Overnight stops are in lodge-style accommodation in the Tanzanian highlands around Kilimanjaro and Tarangire, or, on the way to the Indian Ocean, in a mix of stays between steppe and coast.
Experience required
Both Tanzania tours are aimed at experienced enduro riders: the Northern Tanzania trip is rated as an expert tour with technical passages through the Eastern Arc Mountains, and the Offroad Trip Through East Africa also requires confident off-road experience on loose surfaces. We don't currently offer a beginner tarmac tour in Tanzania.
Own bike allowed
By default you ride one of our prepared rental machines, such as the Honda XLR 250. Whether you can bring your own bike is something we clarify with you individually when you send your inquiry.
Daily distance
The Northern Tanzania trip runs for 16 days, the Offroad Trip Through East Africa for 13. Daily distances vary by terrain, alternating between shorter technical off-road stages and longer stretches on firmer track.
Typical day
Mornings start with a stage briefing and GPS track, then you ride in groups of up to 7 to 10 riders with a bilingual guide and support vehicle for luggage and technical backup. Evenings bring lodge-style stays in the highlands or on the way to the coast.
Best time to ride
The best time to ride Tanzania runs from June to October, when tracks in the highlands and the Serengeti are driest. A second, shorter window opens in January and February between the rains. What's included in the price of a Tanzania motorcycle tour?
Both Tanzania tours include a bilingual guide, the support vehicle, entry fees, and a rental motorcycle such as the Honda XLR 250 on the Northern Tanzania trip. Accommodation and meals are included as listed in each tour's itinerary. Flights, alcoholic drinks and travel health insurance are not included.
Do I need my own motorcycle or can I rent one?
On the Northern Tanzania Motorcycle Trip you ride a prepared rental bike, such as the Honda XLR 250, with technical support included throughout. Whether you can bring your own motorcycle is something we discuss with you individually when you send your inquiry.
How big are the tour groups?

How does booking and the deposit work?
After your inquiry you'll receive a personal offer including the mandatory travel security certificate under German law (§651r BGB). The booking becomes binding once you confirm, and you'll then get your tour folder, packing list and all further details for your Tanzania trip.
What should I budget for beyond the tour price?
Flights to Kilimanjaro or Nairobi, travel health insurance covering motorcycling, and depending on the tour, fuel, drinks and optional extras such as a single room are not included in the base price. The Northern Tanzania trip is priced from 5,009 euros, the Offroad Trip Through East Africa from 3,659 euros.
