Our two guided motorcycle tours through Mongolia sit at different levels. The Offroad Adventure from the Gobi to the Orkhon Waterfall rides gravel tracks, river gravel bars and open steppe and suits a rider who already feels safe off tarmac, even without deep sand experience. The Gobi Desert tour is the tougher of the two: 2,500 km, 90% off-road, through the dunes of Khongoriin Els and river crossings in the Khangai mountains, and it asks for confident, tested off-road riding before you sign up.
On the Gobi Desert tour you can bring your own enduro if it fits our technical checklist, against a deposit of 500 USD or EUR held by our partner in Ulaanbaatar, or rent one of the prepared Yamaha Ténéré 700 machines from the same fleet. On the Orkhon Waterfall tour you ride one of our partner's prepared enduros; riding gear and any personal equipment stay your own responsibility on both routes.
A typical day starts with a route briefing, then the guide takes the group through desert, steppe or mountains until the overnight stop is reached in the afternoon. A support vehicle with a technician follows the whole way, ready if a bike or a rider needs help. Overnight the Gobi Desert tour mixes fixed ger camps with nights under canvas in the desert, cooked from a shared expedition kitchen, while the Orkhon Waterfall tour stays in ger camps and mid-range hotels in Ulaanbaatar with half board.
The Orkhon Waterfall route needs only basic enduro skills on gravel and steppe, no deep sand experience required. The Gobi Desert tour is harder: 2,500 km, 90% off-road, dunes and river crossings, so confident off-road experience is expected.
On the Gobi Desert tour you may ride your own enduro if it passes our checklist, against a 500 USD/EUR deposit with our partner, or rent a Yamaha Ténéré 700. On the Orkhon Waterfall tour you ride a prepared bike from our partner's fleet.
The Gobi Desert tour covers about 2,500 km over 14 days, 90% of it off-road; the Orkhon Waterfall tour runs the same 14 days at an easier pace. Daily distance is set by the guide each morning depending on terrain.
Each day opens with a briefing on the coming stage, then the guide leads the group through desert, steppe or mountains until the overnight stop. A support vehicle with a technician follows throughout, on both tours.
Mongolia rides best from May to September, when Gobi tracks and open steppe are dry and firm underfoot. June to September is the safer window for the river crossings and mountain passes in the Khangai. Midsummer brings the most heat to the Gobi Desert; the shoulder months keep the steppe more comfortable to ride.
