The Journey
Motorcycle expedition from Algeciras to Ivory Coast and to Ghana
On this motorcycle trip to Ivory Coast, you start at the southernmost point of Spain in Algeciras and ride to Accra in Ghana. For your arrival, you have two options: You can ride your own motorcycle to Algeciras and save on the flight, or you can have your bike transported by us and arrive comfortably by plane. Together, we cover approximately 5,555 kilometers and discover the route along the Ivory Coast to Ghana. For motorcycle and enduro expeditions, you are in good hands with the travel organizer OVERCROSS: Since 2016, we have been accompanying motorcycle and off-road drivers on these tours.
Anyone wishing to continue from Ghana to South Africa can participate in the Go West, which leads to South Africa in 29 days.

Days 1-21
Algeciras - Arrival and Ferry
After arriving in Algeciras, you meet the group for the tour briefing - either with your own bike or after taking over the rental enduro. Afterwards, we will ride together to the ferry terminal and cross the Strait of Gibraltar to Ceuta. This officially starts your motorcycle trip Ivory Coast on African soil.
Ceuta - Entry into Morocco
We travel from Ceuta into Morocco and head south. Marrakech is our logistical stopover before we head into the diverse High Atlas. On this leg of your motorcycle trip in Morocco, bustling cities and vast landscapes alternate as we prepare for the mountain pass crossing the next day.
Marrakech - Tizi n'Test Pass (2093 m)
Today is the highlight of the High Atlas: we will cross - provided the weather is favorable - the Tizi n'Test Pass at 2,093 meters above sea level. Narrow bends, rugged rock faces, and wide views characterize this motorcycle expedition through the mountains before we roll back towards the plains and coast on the other side.
Guelmim - Anti-Atlas towards Western Sahara
Through Agadir and Guelmim, we follow the road towards Anti-Atlas and Western Sahara. The landscape becomes starker, traffic less, and the straights longer. On this stage of the Europe Ghana motorcycle journey, you will feel the vastness of Africa for the first time as we approach the desert section kilometer by kilometer.
Tan-Tan - New Year's Eve in the Kasbah
Passing Tan-Tan, the route takes us along the Atlantic deep into the Western Sahara. In a kasbah, a former fortress, we spend New Year's Eve. Along the way, we pass the museum of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, the author of "The Little Prince". This motorcycle expedition shows you the seemingly endless straight lines of the Sahara.
El Aaiún - Atlantic Coast & Shipwreck
We reach El Aaiún, the largest city in Western Sahara with around 218,000 inhabitants. Along the coast, we pass a shipwreck from the time when the Canary Islands were still connected to the African continent by ferry. The view of the Atlantic accompanies you as the motorcycle tour Ivory Coast continues further south.
Nouadhibou - Mauritania Border
We are entering Mauritania. Nouadhibou is our stop to pick up materials and supplies. After that, we will continue along the Atlantic heading south. This stage of the motorcycle journey in Mauritania is characterized by wind, sand, and the unique atmosphere of one of the loneliest coasts in Africa.
Nouakchott - Capital & Dunes
Along the coast we reach Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania. We spend the night in a modest but special accommodation above the rooftops of the city. Afterwards, we set our sights on the endless sand dunes of the Mauritanian desert, before the motorcycle expedition continues towards Senegal.
St. Louis - Colonial City & Zebra Bar
We cross the border into Senegal and reach the charming colonial city of St. Louis. We spend the night in the legendary Zebra Bar. On this stage of the motorcycle trip in Senegal, you encounter French colonial charm and the first impressions of the vibrant West African culture.
Dakar - through the Sahel zone
Through the Sahel zone, a transition region between the dry savanna in the south and the Sahara in the north, we drive all the way to Dakar. The vibrant capital of Senegal is our destination. This motorcycle trip in Senegal shows you the change from the desert to greener, densely populated landscapes.
Dakar - Rest day & Mosque
In Dakar, we take a break day to catch our breath. We visit, among other things, one of the largest mosques in West Africa and reflect on the motorcycle expedition so far. The day is for relaxation and preparation for the border crossing into Guinea.

Tambacounda - Towards Guinea
From Dakar, we head inland southeast towards Tambacounda. The landscape becomes greener and hillier as we approach the border with Guinea. This stage of the Europe Ghana motorcycle trip is the last in Senegal before the terrain changes significantly.
Labé - Border to Guinea
We cross the border into Guinea. The crossing is usually difficult - due to the road conditions and the often limited fuel supply. But as in previous years, we expect to overcome the challenges. This stage of the motorcycle trip through Guinea takes you through green, hilly mountainous regions towards Labé.
Kankan - Mountains & Villages
Next, we continue through the diverse terrain of Guinea. On the way to Kankan, we pass through dense vegetation and small, traditional villages where the authentic life of West Africa becomes palpable. The motorcycle expedition demands a lot from you and the enduro on poor roads, but it rewards with original impressions.
Kankan - Slopes to the border
From Kankan, we approach the border to Ivory Coast with the last liters of fuel in the tank. Sandy and rough tracks characterize this stage of the motorcycle journey through Guinea. Concentration and teamwork are required as we approach the next country and a new section of the journey.
Man - Entry Ivory Coast
Upon arriving in Ivory Coast, we continue our motorcycle tour through Ivory Coast towards Man. Winding roads wind through lush rainforests and dense vegetation. After the rough tracks of Guinea, you will enjoy the driving pleasure on better roads and the lush green landscape of the country.
Gagnoa - Rainforest & Curves
The motorcycle trip through Ivory Coast takes us through tropical rainforests and winding roads over Gagnoa. The vegetation becomes denser, the climate wetter. On this stage, you will experience the green heart of the country before we turn back to the coast and the Atlantic.
Sassandra - Atlantic Coast
Through sandy tracks we reach the coastal regions around Sassandra and again have a clear view of the Atlantic Ocean. Palm trees, beaches, and lagoons characterize this stage of the motorcycle expedition. Here you gain strength for the last long days to Ghana.
Aboisso - Towards Ghana
Along the coast, we travel from Aboisso eastwards to the border with Ghana. This stage of the motorcycle trip in Ivory Coast passes through small villages and plantation landscapes. We are preparing for the final border crossing and the concluding marathon stage of the journey.
Accra - Marathon stage to Ghana
Now follows the marathon stage to Accra. It leads more or less from one construction site to the next and includes very long daily stages with travel times of up to 12 hours. This motorcycle trip in Ghana requires endurance from you - but at the end awaits the capital and the destination of your motorcycle expedition.
Accra - Destination & Important Information
In Accra, your motorcycle adventure ends in Ivory Coast. Please note: This is not a package tour, but an expedition - the description is only a guideline and is not intended for following. From Accra, you can continue your journey to South Africa in 29 days with the rental motorcycle from OVERCROSS on the Motorcycle Expedition Go West.

How do you travel to the starting point of the expedition?
You can either travel to Algeciras by motorcycle yourself or use motorcycle transport and conveniently fly there. -
What accommodations can you expect on the expedition?
There are camping and hotel overnight stays. About every third night you will spend in a hotel so that you can find comfort and relaxation on the way.
