Chiang Mai – Tour Arrival
Your Thailand Laos motorcycle tour starts in Chiang Mai. We pick you up at the airport and take you to the tour hotel in the city center. Depending on your arrival time, you can explore the streets, visit the night market, or relax at the hotel pool. Dinner is at one of the riverside restaurants — a first taste of what the next 12 days will bring.

Chiang Mai – Chiang Khong
After breakfast you collect your Honda CRF 250 and head north toward Chiang Khong. Mekong Crossing – Luang Namtha
From the hotel you ride to the border and cross the Mekong on the Friendship Bridge. Border formalities on the Thai side are quick, but the Laos visa process takes around two hours — then you’re in. This is the start of your guided motorcycle tour in Laos, heading through the mountains of northern Laos past villages of ethnic minorities to Luang Namtha, a small town near the Chinese border. Your first night in Laos is at a simple resort with good local food.
Luang Namtha – Nong Khiaw
Today’s 230 km motorcycle tour through Thailand and Laos carries you deeper into northern Laos, past countless villages, viewpoints, and mountain passes on the road to Nong Khiaw. Arriving at a small resort on the banks of the Nam Ou River, you can watch the sunset over a landscape of limestone karsts with a drink in hand.
Nong Khiaw – Luang Prabang
Riding through broad valleys, this is the day the Luang Prabang motorcycle tour stage delivers: the old town of Luang Prabang was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995 and still looks the part. You arrive early afternoon at a guesthouse right on the bank of the Nam Kan River. After dinner, the night market offers handcrafted goods from across Laos.
Luang Prabang Sightseeing
A rest day in Luang Prabang that doesn’t feel like one. The morning is free for laundry, shopping, or sitting in a café. By afternoon, join our guide for a trip to one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region. Back in town, the temple complex at Wat Phousi is worth the climb for the views. Luang Prabang – Vang Vieng
Leaving Luang Prabang, the first stop is a short boat crossing of the Nam Khan River to reach a waterfall. From there the Vang Vieng motorcycle tour section begins: winding mountain roads demand full attention as the route climbs above the valley floors. You reach Vang Vieng in the early afternoon, rewarded with views over the mountain peaks, and check into a small resort with a pool.
Vang Vieng – Sayaboury
This is the highest day of the motorcycle adventure through Thailand and Laos — the route crosses the highest pass on the entire tour at over 1800 meters through Laotian highland terrain. Lunch is at a small Laotian restaurant after the climb. In the evening you arrive in Sayaboury, a quiet town near the Mekong, and check into a charming guesthouse.
Thailand
The final Thailand stage returns via the Huay Khon border crossing and rides Road 1148 — one of the world’s top motorcycle roads — through Pua and Phayao back to Chiang Mai.
Sayaboury – Pua, Thailand
Narrow mountain roads with thick jungle on both sides take you west from Sayaboury through several remote villages. At midday the group crosses back into Thailand at the Huay Khon border, completing your guided motorcycle tour through Laos and returning to Thai roads. By evening you arrive in Pua, a small valley town with a resort that has fine views over the surrounding hills.
Pua – Phayao
One of the best riding days of this 12-day motorcycle tour through Thailand: Road 1148 is ranked among the top 10 most beautiful motorcycle roads in the world — a well-surfaced winding road through mountain scenery with almost no traffic. By early evening you arrive in Phayao, a calm city on the edge of a large freshwater lake known for its fresh fish restaurants.
Phayao – Chiang Mai
A few kilometers out of Phayao, a waterfall makes a natural morning stop before the final Thailand motorcycle tour leg back to Chiang Mai. Winding roads deliver you into the city early afternoon, leaving time to relax at the hotel or find a good massage. In the evening the whole group gathers for a final dinner to close the tour.
Chiang Mai – Departure
Breakfast, then transfer to Chiang Mai Airport. Your motorcycle trip through Thailand and Laos is complete. Those who want to extend the adventure can arrange a beach stay in southern Thailand before flying home.
