Our South Africa motorcycle tours cover two different riding experiences. The Route 62 & Garden Route tour runs mostly on tarmac, with occasional gravel passes, over 11 days from Cape Town, and suits riders who are comfortable on a big adventure bike but do not need off-road skills. The Windhoek to Cape Town tour mixes paved roads with gravel and desert tracks over 13 days, so you should be comfortable riding loaded on loose surfaces for long stretches.
You always ride a rental bike on our South Africa tours; no own motorcycle is shipped in. On the Route 62 & Garden Route tour you get a Suzuki DL800DE with topcase and panniers. On the Windhoek to Cape Town tour you get a single-cylinder 650cc adventure bike from BMW, KTM, Suzuki or Honda XR, plus a spare motorcycle and a support vehicle carrying your luggage.
Daily distances vary by tour and region: the Cape Peninsula loop alone runs around 150 kilometres, while the Windhoek to Cape Town route covers long, sparsely populated stretches through the Namib with correspondingly longer days in the saddle. Each riding day starts with a briefing on the stage ahead, with GPS tracks and smaller groups on technical sections like the Spreetshoogte Pass, then several hours of riding with stops at highlights such as Cape Point or the Cango Caves, before you reach your hotel, lodge or camp for the night with the support vehicle following along.
Experience required
The Route 62 and Garden Route tour runs mostly on tarmac and suits riders without off-road experience. The Windhoek to Cape Town tour adds gravel and desert tracks over 13 days, so you should be comfortable riding loaded on loose surfaces.
Own bike allowed
You ride a rental bike on every South Africa tour; no own motorcycle is transported. Route 62 and Garden Route: a Suzuki DL800DE with topcase and panniers. Windhoek to Cape Town: a single-cylinder 650cc BMW, KTM, Suzuki or Honda XR, plus a spare bike and support vehicle.
Daily distance
The Cape Peninsula loop runs around 150 kilometres in a day. On the 13-day Windhoek to Cape Town tour, stages through the sparsely populated Namib are noticeably longer, with a support vehicle carrying your luggage.

Best time to ride
South Africa rides well almost all year round. The Garden Route is best from September to May. Cape Town and the Peninsula ride year-round, best September to April. Route 62 through the Karoo suits March to November, the Namibia extension October to January.

What's included in the price of a South Africa motorcycle tour?
Every tour includes your rental motorcycle, an experienced guide, accommodation and the meals listed in the itinerary, plus the legally required travel security certificate. On the Windhoek to Cape Town tour you also get a support vehicle and a spare motorcycle; on the Route 62 & Garden Route tour, insurance, unlimited kilometres and toll fees are included too.
How much do the South Africa motorcycle tours cost?
The 13-day Namibia to South Africa tour, Windhoek to Cape Town, starts at 4,219 euro per person. The 11-day Route 62 & Garden Route tour starts at 4,560 euro per person. Both prices are per person in a double room; flights are not included.
Is there a deposit or refundable security deposit for the rental bike?
On the Windhoek to Cape Town tour, the rental motorcycle carries a deductible deposit of 1,000 euro. On the Route 62 & Garden Route tour, you pay a refundable equipment deposit and a refundable motorcycle deposit of 25,000 South African rand, both returned if the bike comes back undamaged.
How big is the group on a South Africa motorcycle tour?
The Windhoek to Cape Town tour runs with 4 to 10 riders, so your guide can adapt the pace on technical sections like the Spreetshoogte Pass. The Route 62 & Garden Route tour takes 6 to 14 riders, still small enough for the guide to give everyone individual attention.
What motorcycle will I ride, and can I bring my own?
