MOTORCYCLE-TRIPS · GEORGIA
This enduro motorcycle trip through western Georgia takes you on approximately 800 km from the subtropical Black Sea to the high mountain region of Svaneti.
The Journey
Following in the footsteps of the Argonauts, this enduro tour through Western Georgia takes you through a land of extremes: In just a few hours of riding, you transition from the subtropical Black Sea climate to the glacier world of the Greater Caucasus. The journey begins in Batumi, follows red clay trails through the forests of Adjara, and climbs to the Goderdzi Pass at 3,000 m. Through Kutaisi with the UNESCO monastery Gelati and the Prometheus Caves, it goes up to Svaneti, passing medieval defensive towers all the way to Ushguli. The terrain is technical but accessible, with around 70% off-road, a guide, and a support vehicle always within reach.
You land at Kutaisi Airport and will be taken to Batumi in about an hour, the relaxed port city on the Black Sea with its mild subtropical climate. After check-in, there’s time to explore the old town, where modern skyscrapers meet ancient buildings. In the afternoon, a test ride is scheduled to perfectly adjust your motorcycle to you. It will take you through the subtropical forests around Batumi, partly on red clay roads. Be sure to bring your passport, as passes are required for the border-adjacent forest paths. The evening concludes with a shared Georgian dinner.
Early in the morning, you say goodbye to Batumi and drive through the subtropical forests of Adjara towards the mountains. The first kilometers run along a mountain pass road beside the Adjaristskali River, lined with lush vegetation. The Adjara mountains do not reach the heights of the Greater Caucasus, but offer plenty of variety with mountain and valley rides and refreshing river crossings. Passing picturesque mountain villages, you reach the Goderdzi Pass at 3,000 m in the Lesser Caucasus in the evening. Distance: 185 km.
Today you continue rolling to Kutaisi. The road conditions are varied and challenge your driving skills. In the morning, you cross the Little Caucasus, passing herding villages with their typical wooden houses and alpine meadows overlooking the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park. Descending, you reach the spa town of Abastumani, where a lunch break by the river awaits with freshly prepared trout. In the evening, you arrive in Kutaisi, once the capital of ancient Colchis. Optionally, you can visit the UNESCO monastery of Gelati. Distance: 140 km.
The most scenic day takes you to the heart of the Caucasus to Svanetiya. Before that, you visit the famous Prometheus Caves with their stalactites and stalagmites. Then it's up into the high mountains to the remote region of Svanetiya in northwestern Georgia. The picturesque small town of Mestia is a must for any motorcycle enthusiast and has remained down-to-earth. Along the way, you will see original villages where time seems to stand still. For more than half of the day, you will ride off-road through the landscapes of Svanetiya. Distance: 180 km.

Today, Ushguli is the goal, the highest permanently inhabited village in Europe at about 2,200 m. Here stand the famous defensive towers of Ushguli, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The altitude grants you a breathtaking view of steep slopes and snow-capped peaks of the Caucasus. In the late afternoon, you return to Mestia and admire once again the Shkara, at 5,200 m the highest mountain in Georgia. Distance: 100 km.
Your enduro trip through West Georgia is coming to an end. On the ride downhill, you enjoy the last views of the mountain landscape of Svaneti. After a few hours in the saddle, you reach Kutaisi, the final destination of the tour. Distance: 180 km.
In conclusion, the transfer will take you to the airport. With the impressions of the Black Sea coast, the Goderdzi Pass, and the watchtowers of Svaneti in your luggage, your enduro journey through Western Georgia comes to an end.
