Introduction to Botswana and the Victoria Falls
Warm welcome to Botswana, more specifically to Maun. "Maun" translates to "place of the short reeds." The Okavango Delta is with an area of 15,000 square kilometers the largest inland delta in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here, the Okavango River splits into a branching network of channels, creating lagoons and islands. A multitude of well-known African wildlife is native here. Especially during the dry season, many herds can be found here, which come from the plains in search of water towards the Okavango Delta. This makes this area very popular for safari tourists, there are numerous opportunities for game drives and especially river safaris with traditional Botswanan canoes are a must for adventurous travelers. The most magnificent natural spectacle in the heart of Africa: The Victoria Falls. With a width of 1,700 meters, the Zambezi falls 110 meters, making them the largest waterfalls in the world and forming a water mist column 300 meters high, which can be seen from 30 kilometers away. The local people of the Kololo even call the waterfall "thundering smoke." In Victoria Falls National Park, in addition to exploring the falls themselves, numerous activities are offered: At the top is of course white-water rafting on the mighty Zambezi River, but a boat tour with dinner and sunset is also highly recommended, as is bungee jumping. We have two days to take advantage of these amazing experiences:
