Days 1–14

Arrival in Arequipa

Welcome to Peru! Today you will reach Arequipa, the lively city in the south of the country. We will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. During the briefing, your guide will discuss the tour, the formalities, and the deposit for the motorcycle. The rest of the day is yours.

Altitude: 2,300 m · no riding day

Arequipa to Puerto Inka

Finally, the engines are starting! First, we need to find our way out of the city. After about 50 kilometers, we reach the Pan-American Highway and follow it north to sea level. Along the Pacific coast, we roll to Puerto Inka, where a beautiful hotel awaits next to Inca ruins.

Distance: 410 km · Altitude: 2,300 m to sea level · Surface: Asphalt

Puerto Inka to Nasca

We continue along the Pan-American Highway northwards, through one of the driest deserts in the world, to Nasca. The place is famous for its geoglyphs and lines that can only be seen from the air. In the afternoon, you can optionally take a half-hour flight over the Pampa.

Distance: 180 km · Elevation: Sea level up to 500 m · Pavement: Asphalt

Nasca to Chalhuanca

From Nasca, the mighty Andes road takes us up to over 4,200 meters, where llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas graze. Here begins one of the best motorcycle roads in South America: endless curves for kilometers. Past the small mountain village of Puquio, we go even higher before we reach Chalhuanca.

Distance: 340 km · Altitude: 500 m over 4,500 m to 2,000 m · Surface: Asphalt

From Chalhuanca to Cusco

After an early breakfast and a lot of ups and downs over the Andes, we reach one of the most beautiful cities in South America: Cusco, the ancient capital of the Incas.

Distance: 320 km · Elevation: 2,000 m to 3,500 m · Surface: Asphalt

Discovering Cusco

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a guided city walk through the center of Cusco for about two and a half hours. Afterwards, you can explore the city on your own: steep alleys, the Plaza de Armas, markets, the cathedral, museums, and the ruins of Saqsayhuaman.

Elevation: 3,400 m · no travel day

Cusco to Ollantaytambo

From Cusco we drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the way, we visit various Inca sites, both famous and unknown, all fascinating in their own way. We end the day in the village of Ollantaytambo.

Machu Picchu

The absolute highlight of the trip: Machu Picchu. To this day, there is no road leading here. Early in the morning, the train takes you to the town of Aguas Calientes, from there a bus takes you up to the citadel in half an hour. After the visit, you return by train to Ollantaytambo.

Altitude: 2,430 m · no travel day

Ollantaytambo to Quincemil

Back on the motorcycle! Today we are going to Quincemil, a small tropical village on the eastern slopes of the Andes. The paved descent is spectacular, perhaps the most beautiful motorcycle road of your life. We will spend the night in a cozy, family-run hotel in the jungle.

Distance: 300 km · Elevation: 2,800 m to 600 m · Surface: Asphalt

Quincemil to Puno

Another extraordinary day of driving, now uphill against the mighty Andes, as if you had to drive up a wall. The views are magnificent. After lunch in Macusani, we reach Puno on Lake Titicaca, where we will spend the night.

Distance: 480 km · Altitude: 600 m to 3,800 m · Surface: Asphalt

Lake Titicaca and Uros Islands

In the morning we take a boat trip on Lake Titicaca and visit the floating reed islands of the Uros. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy.

Puno to Colca Canyon

Once again we cross the Andes from east to west, towards the Colca Canyon. The reward is breathtaking views of the high mountains. We end the day in Chivay; in the afternoon we relax in the natural hot springs.

Distance: 315 km · Altitude: 3,800 m above 4,910 m down to 3,600 m · Surface: Asphalt

Colca Canyon to Arequipa

Again it means getting up early, because the condors don't wait. After about an hour we reach the “Cruz del Condor” in the middle of the Colca Canyon, where you can observe the Andean condor flying in the wild. Afterwards, we return to Arequipa, where the tour began.

Distance: 260 km · Altitude: 3,600 m to 2,300 m · Surface: Asphalt

  • The start and finish is Arequipa. Airport transfers are included in the travel price.
  • Machu Picchu, the Colca Canyon with its condors, the dream roads of the Andes, Lake Titicaca with the Uros Islands, and Cusco.
  • Travelers from the EU and Switzerland need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of departure. No visa is required for stays up to 90 days.
  • Check the standard vaccinations and refresh them if necessary. For Peru, a Hepatitis A vaccination is additionally recommended. It’s best to consult your family doctor or a travel medicine specialist for personal advice.
  • Yes. We will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall and will be easily recognizable. Please do not leave the hall until we have found each other. We track your flight online and respond to changes in arrival time.
  • Check whether your health and accident insurance also applies abroad and supplement it with travel cancellation, repatriation, and legal protection if necessary. Ensure worldwide validity and note the emergency numbers.
  • We stay in carefully selected 2- and 3-star hotels with clean rooms, shower, toilet, and a good breakfast. Single and double rooms are bookable; double rooms are only suitable for travelers who know each other.
  • Yes. You need both your national and international driver's licenses. Be sure to check the validity of both documents before departure.
  • In larger towns and mostly along the route, you will have reception. Affordable travel rates are worthwhile; clarify this in advance with your provider. Most hotels offer free Wi-Fi.
  • This route consists entirely of well-paved asphalt. Tolls are charged on main roads, which motorcycles are often exempt from.
  • The risks depend on the stage. Daily briefings reduce the accident risk. Traffic in large cities is lively, and animals roam freely in rural areas. We recommend defensive driving, full protective gear, and zero alcohol.
  • In larger cities like Arequipa and Cusco, there are well-equipped clinics. In rural areas, care is limited. A robust travel insurance policy with an emergency number is essential for this long trip.
  • There isn’t a fixed best time, as Peru has several climatic zones. In the Andean highlands, April to October is ideal due to less rainfall. We align our tour calendar with climate and weather.
  • At altitude, headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath may occur. Our stages are designed for gradual acclimatization. Drink plenty, coca tea, and 'Sorojchi' tablets help. We carry an oximeter and blood pressure monitor.
  • For this tour of about 2,700 kilometers, you can budget around 100 Euros for fuel. Refueling is done per gallon (3.8 liters), paid in cash or by card.
  • You will ride alternatively on the CFmoto 450MT or the Honda NX500, two light and versatile travel enduros. Both are handy and comfortable and conquer the paved Andean roads of this tour with ease.
  • In the support vehicle, there is usually only one seat available (maximum two). It is allocated on a 'first come, first served' basis.
  • Yes, this is easily possible and is a lot of fun for many participants. Everything is just as well organized as for the motorcycle group. We are happy to create offers for 2 to 6 people.
