Switzerland Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Switzerland belongs to the Schengen area, so citizens from EU and EFTA countries can enter without a visa. Travelers from many other countries may need a visa. To apply for a tourist visa, visit the website of the Swiss Embassy in your country. Schedule an appointment and submit the required documents. A visa is not available on arrival.
Zurich Airport (ZRH) is the largest and best airport for international arrivals in Switzerland. Alternatively, you can use Geneva Airport (GVA) or Basel-Mulhouse Airport (BSL), depending on your destination. These airports offer good connections to many off-road travel routes and car rental providers.
The official currency in Switzerland is the Swiss Franc (CHF). Credit cards are widely accepted, but it is advisable to have some cash on hand, especially in rural areas. Use ATMs to withdraw cash and avoid high exchange fees at hotels or airports.
No specific vaccinations are required for entry into Switzerland, but you should keep up with all routine vaccinations. Good travel insurance is highly recommended to cover medical costs and unforeseen events. Don’t forget to purchase your insurance before you travel.
A driver's license from your home country is usually sufficient in Switzerland, but an international driving permit may be beneficial. For a SIM card, you can visit one of the telecommunications providers like Swisscom or Sunrise in major cities or airports. “Prepaid” cards are often the best option for tourists and allow for easy data packages.
