Mexico Travel and Vacation – Good to know

German citizens do not need a visa for travel to Mexico for up to 180 days. Upon entry, the border authority will ask for a passport that is valid for at least 6 months. For longer stays, a visa must be applied for in advance, which can be done online or through the Mexican embassy. Whenever possible, keep all documents ready to avoid complications.

The Mexico City Airport (Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez) is the largest and best-connected airport for travelers. It offers numerous connections to other cities in Mexico, which is especially important if you want to explore the region by motorcycle. Alternatively, the airports in Cancún and Guadalajara are also recommended, depending on your travel plans.

The official currency in Mexico is the Mexican Peso (MXN). Credit cards are accepted in most tourist areas, but it is advisable to also have cash on hand, especially for smaller expenses or in rural areas. ATMs are widely available, but always check fees and exchange rates.

While no specific vaccinations are mandatory for Mexico, vaccinations against Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Tetanus are recommended. A travel insurance is essential to receive medical care in case of emergency. Also, inquire about coverage for motorcycle breakdown and theft during your trip. Safety is a priority!

EU driving licenses are recognized in Mexico, so you can drive with your regular license. However, it is advisable to also have a translation or an international driving license to avoid misunderstandings with the police. Keep all vehicle documents ready to bypass legal hurdles.
