Introduction to the Paris to Dakar Motorcycle EXPEDITION

The start of the expedition is of course in Paris. From there we will ride on our own motorcycle or a rental bike for 22 days southward. We will travel to Gibraltar in just a few days and cross over to Africa. Through the green north of Morocco, we will cross the Atlas Mountains and finally reach the desert. We will be moving off-road for long stretches towards Western Sahara. Along the wild Atlantic coast, we will cross the border into Mauritania. In Mauritania, it will be even more challenging for both man and machine. We will rarely see asphalt - if we do, it will only be to cover some kilometers. The route selected by OVERCROSS largely follows the original route. In selecting the waypoints, we paid great attention to the travel-enduro aspect to experience the adventure on the trails of the legendary Paris Dakar Rally. The route consists of both on-road and off-road sections. The connection stages lead partly over normal roads to the scenic and driving highlights of the route, which off-road far away from civilization leads through rugged gorges and sandy sections along the Atlantic Ocean to Dakar. The destination of the journey is Dakar, the thriving metropolis and capital of Senegal. For those who still crave more adventure, you can join us for the follow-up tour through Senegal and Gambia. Daily program: Motorcycle Expedition: On the Trails of the Dakar Rally

1. Paris Tag: Meeting at Place Jacques Rueff in front of the Eiffel Tower

On the first day of travel, we meet with our motorcycles in the morning in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The official start will be there. Of course, you have the option to join the guide already in Germany and arrive as a group in Paris. After a brief introduction and some instructions, we are off. The day's destination is the highest dune in Europe, the Dune du Pilat, near Bordeaux in Arcachon.

2. Paris to Dakar Day: Get on the motorcycles and head to Spain

After seeing the Atlantic Ocean for the first time on our journey, which will greet us even warmer thousands of kilometers further south, we head over the foothills of the Pyrenees into Spain. After a small mountain pass, we ride over the Iberian Meseta to Burgos, our day's destination.

3 & 4 on the Road Day: Over the Sierra de Gredos to Seville, following the call of Africa

One does not know where one is at the moment. Northern Spain is sparsely populated, and the vastness of the landscape and surroundings remind one of images one sees of motorcycle journeys in America. We need to cover kilometers in order to reach the destination of day 4 early and still have a few hours for beautiful Seville.

5. Off the Road Day: The first kilometers in Morocco

In the morning, we set off and cover the last kilometers to the ferry port in Gibraltar. After crossing, we must declare our motorcycles before we can move onto African soil for the first time. Since it usually takes a while, we will set up our camp shortly after the port Tanger Med.

6. Africa on the Paris-Dakar Track: Moroccan roads and the Cascades d'Ouzoud

We follow the coast to Rabat and then take small roads towards the Atlas Mountains. The traffic is unusual, and riding the motorcycle requires a lot of concentration. We'll leisurely work our way through the foothills of the Atlas towards Ouzoud. The first mountain passes are already waiting for us.

7. Like at the driver camp of Paris_Dakar: on the 7th day, you shall rest and work on the motorcycle, said the bike god

On the seventh day, you shall rest, and that is exactly what we do. It is time to hike in the beautiful landscape surrounding Ouzoud, visit the 120-meter high waterfalls, or tend to your motorcycle. After all, we have already covered about 2500 km.

8. Day towards Dakar: Meeting in Assni and crossing Tizi n'Test

In Assni at the foot of Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa, we make our way together to the mountain pass of Tizi n'Test. Even though it is not that many kilometers, it takes almost a day until we are on the other side in Taroudant with our motorcycles. On the single-lane road, you can encounter anything from donkeys to 40-ton trucks.

9. Adventure Day with the Bike: African culture and wonderful riding fun with the motorcycle

We travel through a beautiful valley full of almond trees towards Tafraoute. The road winds continuously along the valley wall, making every motorcyclist's heart beat faster. The first dromedaries will be seen, and the desert begins to unfold. Upon reaching Tafraoute, we can stock up on supplies for the next few days and admire the gigantic monoliths that look as if they were built by human hands.

10. & 11. Enduro and Adventure Day: Through the Sahara to Smara

The first larger off-road stage lies ahead of us. For two days, we will ride towards the desert city of Smara through the western foothills of the great Sahara. On the way lies the disputed border between Morocco and formerly Spanish Sahara. This is still evident in the mentality of the inhabitants and the language. While French is widely spoken in Morocco, suddenly Spanish is useful here.

12. Goo West Day: To the metropolis of Western Sahara

We travel on a dusty track along Seguiet el Hamra, which flows with water most of the year. The day's destination, El Aaiún, is not far off, and there is time to let the motorcycle rest, stretch our legs in the afternoon, or take a swim in the sea.

13 & 14. No Man's Land Day: Sahara, Sahara, and Sahara

For two days, we travel approximately 500 km on the N1 to Dakhla. On our right is the blue Atlantic, and on our left, the endless expanses of the Sahara stretch out. We will have time to make stops along the beautiful coast and drive segments off-road along the beach. Optionally, we can ride faster and take a rest day in the surfer town of Dakhla.

15. Dakar is calling: Into the unknown

While Morocco is familiar to everyone, Mauritania is relatively unknown despite its size. From Dakhla, we head to the border and cross the no man's land. Then we will spend the rest of the day with the entry formalities for Mauritania. There, it is said: Europeans may have invented the clock, but Africans created time. We will set up our camp after the border in the idyllic dunes.

16 & 17 Desert Days in the Desert: The Oasis of Atar as a goal

We follow the route of the iron ore train off-road to Atar. The route is challenging, and it will take us two days to reach the oasis. Atar was once an important city in the high culture of the Moors, who are the namesakes of the country.

18. Day on Tour: Out of the desert and on to Dakar

We drive back to the sea and will be half on-road and half off-road in the Sahara one last time before entering the Sahel region. We will spend the night on the beach, and those with a fishing line will be successful at fishing. The sea off Mauritania is considered one of the richest fishing areas in the world.

19. The Legend Dakar: On the beach

Before the road was built in 2006, the official route to Nouakchott was along the beach. Due to the tides, it is smooth, and you can still move faster than on the road. We will take advantage of this and continue our motorcycle journey along this route. Our day's destination is the capital, Nouakchott, where half of the Mauritanian population resides.

20. Day and last border crossing: Over the Senegal River

Those who do not yet know Fech Fech will become acquainted with it today. On those over-exaggerated tracks, we head to the border of Senegal at the Senegal River. There are trees along the road again, and significantly more animals. Our route takes us through a bird conservation national park where many of our European birds overwinter. The day's destination is Saint-Louis. The city is located on an island in the delta of the Senegal River and has a very beautiful colonial town center.

21st Dakar Day: Finish line in Dakar

We set off from Saint-Louis in the morning and will reach Dakar around noon. Like the Paris Dakar, our journey ends on the shores of Lac Rose, the pink salt lake on the outskirts of Dakar. We will spend the last evening together and celebrate our arrival with good food. The next day marks the official end of this tour after we have submitted the motorcycles for customs clearance for shipping.
