Daily program: Special Safari Adventure in the Overland Truck
Day 1: Johannesburg - Martins Drift
Early in the morning, we leave the bustling metropolis of Johannesburg and head towards the vastness of the South African landscape in the Overland Truck. Initially, we travel on paved roads to the Botswana border at Martins Drift. After crossing the border into Botswana, the first off-road adventure of this adventure trip begins. Depending on the weather, we may encounter the first muddy and puddly gravel roads. In the midst of African nature, we set up our first campsite, where the night will bring us anticipation and the sounds of the wilderness.
Day 2: Palapye - Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Today we travel through dry but beautifully dusty savannah landscapes along partly unpaved roads to the north. In the afternoon, we reach the Khama Rhino Sanctuary, where we will see the last African white and black rhinos on a game drive. A special place that fills us with excitement for many more safari experiences on this Africa trip.
Day 3: Khama - Maun
A long travel day on our adventure journey through the central regions of Botswana lies ahead of us. In addition to long asphalt sections, we can expect passages with bumpy washboard tracks and loose sand, through which our truck easily makes its way. The gate to the Okavango Delta Maun greets us with safari flair and the feeling of being very close to the largest inland delta. Here begins the true African adventure.
Day 4: Maun - Okavango Delta
Today we go deep into the Okavango Delta, you have the choice to visit Chief's Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site surrounded by water landscapes, where you can see many wild animals, including the Big Five in their natural habitat, or to visit the Moremi Game Reserve for a safari tour. Nature presents itself here in a picture like you have probably never seen before. The night in the bush becomes an unforgettable experience in the wilderness.
Day 5: Maun - Nata
In the morning, we head back into the Okavango Delta with a mokoro (the traditional boats that are hollowed-out tree trunks) before leaving the delta behind and heading towards Nata. The route takes us through remote African villages, (which showcase the culture of rural life in Africa) and wide savannahs. In Nata, we reach the famous and fascinating Makgadikgadi salt pans. The sunset there is a moment for eternity, as the image remains forever in memory.
Day 6: Nata - Kasane
On today’s leg of our overland journey, we will reach the city of Kasane around noon, the gateway to one of Africa’s most significant national parks, namely the Chobe National Park, known for its elephant population. In the afternoon, we will take a river safari on the Chobe River by boat while large herds of elephants come to drink at the water. This moment brings not only goosebumps but also countless lasting images.
Day 7: Kasane - Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe)
We are now crossing the border into Zimbabwe and the landscape is increasingly noticeably changing. Shortly thereafter, we reach the thundering Victoria Falls, which are among the largest waterfalls in the world. The spray mist (which can rise as a cloud hundreds of meters into the air and be visible from afar), the roar of the water, and the colors of the rainbow make this place one of the most magnificent natural wonders of the Earth.
Day 8: Victoria Falls
A free day today full of possibilities: Whether bungee jumping from the famous railway bridge, ziplining, water rafting, or a relaxing walk along the falls, adrenaline and nature experiences come together here during our trip to Africa. There are also guided local off-road tours for bikers. In the evening, the day winds down with a sundowner, overlooking the mighty Zambezi River, which contributes a significant part to the power infrastructure in Southern Africa with its hydropower plants.
Day 9: Victoria Falls - Hwange National Park
We continue our Africa adventure journey and leave Victoria Falls heading towards Hwange National Park in the interior of Zimbabwe. The last kilometers take us again over rough dirt roads to our accommodation or camp for today. An afternoon safari tour brings us close encounters with Africa's great wildlife. Dust, sun, and excitement characterize this safari day.
Day 10: Hwange National Park
Two safari game drives await us today. The encounters with elephants, antelopes, and big cats in their natural habitat are beyond words. The Painted Dog Conservation Centre allows us deep insights into the conservation of African wildlife. A day full of movement, wilderness, and heart ends with a sundowner.
Day 11: Hwange - Bulawayo
The route of our safari adventure takes us to the south of Zimbabwe. Upon arriving in Bulawayo, you can explore the city or optionally take a tour to the over 2 billion-year-old granite rock formations of Matobo Hills. Between the rocks and legends, we experience the spirituality of the African country. The sunset over the granite peaks is dreamlike and indescribable.
Day 12: Bulawayo - Beitbridge - Kruger National Park
A long day of travel on the African trip is ahead, as we head to the South African border. After crossing the border into South Africa, we approach the famous and largest wildlife park in all of Africa, the Kruger National Park. The excitement is rising, as another safari highlight awaits tomorrow. In the evening, we enjoy the bush ambiance at the camp.
Day 13: Kruger National Park
The whole day belongs to the last safari of this adventurous trip to Africa. Early in the morning and in the afternoon, we go on a game drive, and with a bit of luck, we encounter all of the Big Five. Every bend brings new animal encounters. Africa reveals itself to us here once again in all its diversity.
Day 14: Kruger - Johannesburg
On the last day, we roll back into civilization with our overland truck. Johannesburg welcomes us and our luggage full of stories and a heart that will henceforth beat for Africa. This adventure trip will accompany you for a long time and you will be able to share the memories for a lifetime.
