Lodge Safari in Botswana

After our first meeting, we leave the coastal town of Swakopmund and head towards the massive granite formations of Spitzkoppe, which rise 700 meters above the desert plains. The rock paintings indicate the significance this area had for the San many years ago. During a walk with a local guide, we have the opportunity to admire some examples of San rock art before we head to our overnight accommodation for the evening. The Brandberg (Burning Mountains) is considered the highest mountain in Namibia and home to the famous White Lady, one of more than 45,000 rock paintings in the area. This morning we will take a one-hour hike to view the painting, which is said to be 2,000 years old. Please note that the hike takes place through rugged terrain along the gorge of the usually dry Tsisab River. After our exploration, we continue our journey to the Kamanjab area. Anyone wishing to visit an educational center showcasing the lifestyle of the Himba tribe has the option to book an optional excursion in the afternoon. No chance of hunger with this breakfast, lunch, and delicious dinner. We recommend joining the White Lady hike at Brandberg.

We wake up early and drive to Etosha National Park. Etosha is the site of some of the most unique wildlife sightings in Africa. We arrive at the park in the afternoon and experience our first game drive on the way to camp. Included meals are breakfast, lunch snack, and dinner. The highlight of the day is the afternoon safari in the truck.

Our second day in Etosha allows us another full day to continue our exploration of the park. No day on safari is like another and the excitement before each special sighting is motivation enough to keep our eyes wide open. We explore the edges of the Etosha Pan in search of the rich wildlife that inhabits the park. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Included Highlight: Full-day safari in the truck.

We must rise early as we head to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia. Upon arrival, we will take a short walk through the city center and have the opportunity to visit some of the more well-known landmarks. Today we travel east to neighboring Botswana and the Kalahari Desert. The Kalahari is distinctly different from the Namib Desert, after which Namibia is named. Nevertheless, the Kalahari is no less dramatic, spanning over 900,000 square kilometers. The San people have long been associated with this harsh environment. This evening we will enjoy an evening of dance, giving us insight into their culture of singing, dancing, and storytelling. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. For the next two nights, we will be separated from our overland truck. Therefore, it is important that you pack/collect your personal belongings that you may need before we set out for Maun. There will not be enough time to repack in Maun. Please pack lightly and only take what you need for the next two nights. This morning we rise early and make our way to Maun. Upon arrival in Maun, you will have the opportunity to participate in a scenic flight over the delta (weather and timing permitting). After the optional scenic flight, you will be picked up in Maun and taken in smaller safari vehicles to the Khwai Conservation Area. In the evening, our guide will prepare us for our mokoro excursion, the journey into the Okavango Delta, and our game drive in Khwai. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Optional Activity: Helicopter flight over the Okavango Delta.

We set off early and travel by safari vehicle to the poling station where we will meet the polers who will guide us into the delta. The polers will lead us through the tranquil area of narrow, reed-fringed channels that open into beautiful lagoons. Although the mokoro route is not primarily for wildlife observation, a variety of animals can be seen in this pristine wilderness area, including elephants, giraffes, kudus, impalas, and zebras. After lunch, we return to the Khwai Conservation Area and take an afternoon game drive in open 4x4 safari vehicles. The routes chosen by the professional guide for the safari may vary, especially as certain roads may be closed or impassable due to flooding. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Today's drive through Savuti National Park to Kasane will take about ten hours. We will set off at first light in the open 4x4 safari vehicles. The road conditions can best be described as dense sand and, depending on the season you are traveling in, it may go through thick vegetation. During the winter months (May to September), we recommend dressing in warm clothes, packing a beanie and/or a scarf, as well as a thick jacket. Wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed when crossing these wilderness areas, and each stop for wildlife observation extends the time we spend in the 4x4 safari vehicle. It is advisable to stock up on snacks and at least five liters of water in Maun, as there are no other supply points until Kasane. The Savuti Game Reserve is a unique area bordering the Okavango Delta to the west and Chobe National Park to the east. Savuti is known for having the highest concentration of wildlife in southern Africa. Today will be a long day, but we hope to see many species of animals and plants. The habitats in the Savuti Game Reserve range from wetlands to open waters to grasslands and savanna woodlands. In the afternoon, we reach the banks of the Chobe River and meet our overland truck in the town of Kasane. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. Those who wish to participate in the optional game drive in Chobe National Park will be picked up early from camp and travel in open safari vehicles. You will return to camp in time for lunch and a short siesta before we set off in the afternoon to explore Chobe National Park from the river. During a comfortable boat ride, we can observe the many elephants up close that frequent the river in the afternoons. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner. With all the memories of our experiences in the wilderness etched into our minds, we cross the border into Zimbabwe and make the short drive to Victoria Falls. Today you have the opportunity to see the spectacular Victoria Falls, also known by the local name 'Mosi-oa Tunya' (the smoke that thunders). Much of today will be dedicated to experiencing the mighty Zambezi River as it plunges into the Batoka Gorge below, but the lively adventure town of Victoria Falls also offers a variety of optional activities for those in need of an adrenaline rush in the afternoon. For the more relaxed traveler, there are also craft markets and cafes. Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
