The Journey

On the Trails of the Incas through the Andes

This motorcycle trip in Peru places equal emphasis on riding fun, nature, and culture. From Lima, we roll along the Pacific coast via the Pan-American Highway to the south, ascend into the Andean highlands, and reach classics like the Nasca Lines, the white city of Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with the Uros Islands, the Inca capital of Cusco, and of course Machu Picchu. The trip is intended for experienced motorcyclists; off-road experience is not required. Look forward to about 3,025 kilometers of real South America, on the nimble Yamaha Ténéré 700.

Days 1–22

Arrival in Lima

Welcome to Peru! After arriving at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, our transfer will take you to the hotel in the Miraflores neighborhood. The rest of the day is yours to relax and get settled in.

City Tour Lima

To kick things off, we explore Lima, the bustling metropolis and City of Kings. On a city tour, we see the viewpoint San Cristóbal, the Plaza de Armas, and the Presidential Palace in the UNESCO center. (Entrance fees on site.)

Panamericana to Ica

The first motorcycle stage rolls down the Panamericana. Passing the Pacific coast, endless dunes, and green oases, we reach Ica with the desert oasis Huacachina after about 300 kilometers.

Panamericana to Nasca

Further south through vast wine-growing areas. After about 150 kilometers on the Pan-American Highway, we reach Nasca, the starting point for one of Peru's greatest mysteries.

The Lines of Nasca

Today the motorcycles stay put. Anyone who likes can take off in a small plane and view the famous Nazca Lines from above: huge figures like monkey, hummingbird, and spider. (Flight optional, to be paid on site.)

Puerto Inka

The Pan American Highway takes us about 165 kilometers further south to the idyllic bay of Puerto Inka, where penguins, pelicans, and sea lions are at home.

Arequipa

A long stage of about 400 kilometers leads to Arequipa, Peru's second largest city. Its nickname "white city" comes from the Sillar, a light volcanic rock from which many buildings are constructed.

Santa Catalina Monastery

Today we visit the Santa Catalina Monastery from the 16th century, a small city within the city with its own alleys and baroque architecture. The afternoon is yours to spend as you like.

Puno on Lake Titicaca

About 310 kilometers up to the highlands to Puno on Lake Titicaca. At over 4,000 meters, the picture-perfect Peru reveals itself with herds of vicuñas, alpacas, and llamas at the roadside.

Uros Islands

By boat, we go to the floating reed islands of the Uros, built once for protection against attackers. Next, we visit the island of Taquile in the deep blue Lake Titicaca. (Boat tour on site.)

Cusco

About 386 kilometers bring us to Cusco, the former Inca capital and the "navel of the world." The city at 3,326 meters is one of the most visited destinations in South America.

  • For experienced motorcyclists who ride regularly. Off-road experience is not necessary, but the trip is not suitable for beginners.
  • Start and end point is Lima. The airport transfers are included in the travel price.
  • Machu Picchu, the Nasca Lines, Arequipa, Lake Titicaca with the Uros Islands, Cusco, and the Ballestas Islands.
  • Travelers from the EU and Switzerland need a passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of departure. No visa is required for stays of up to 90 days.
  • Check the standard vaccinations and refresh them if necessary. A hepatitis A vaccination is additionally recommended for Peru. It's best to speak with your family doctor or a travel medicine specialist for personal advice.
  • Yes. We will meet you in the arrival hall and will be easily recognizable. Please do not leave the hall until we have found each other. We track your flight online and respond to changes in arrival time.
  • Check if your health and accident insurance also applies abroad, and supplement it if necessary with trip cancellation, repatriation, and legal protection. Ensure worldwide validity and note the emergency numbers.

  • Yes. You need both your national and international driver's licenses. Be sure to check the validity of both documents before departure.
  • In larger towns and usually also along the route, you will have reception. Affordable travel rates are worthwhile; clarify this in advance with your provider. Most hotels offer free Wi-Fi.
  • The roads vary but usually surprise our participants positively. Toll applies on main roads, which motorcycles are often exempt from. We specify the off-road portion in the travel program.
  • The risks depend on the stage. Daily briefings reduce the accident risk. Traffic in large cities is lively, and animals roam freely in rural areas. We recommend defensive driving, full protective gear, and zero alcohol.
  • In larger cities like Lima, Arequipa, and Cusco, there are well-equipped clinics. In rural areas, the medical supply is limited. A comprehensive travel insurance with emergency numbers is mandatory for this long-distance trip.
  • There is no fixed best time since Peru has several climate zones. In the Andean highlands, April to October is ideal because there is little rain then. We organize our tour calendar according to climate and weather.
  • At high altitudes, headaches, fatigue, or shortness of breath may occur. Our stages are designed for slow acclimatization. Drinking plenty, coca tea, and "Sorojchi" tablets help. We carry an oximeter and blood pressure monitor with us.
  • For the approximately three-week tour covering 3,000 to 3,300 kilometers, you can plan around 120 euros for fuel. Fuel is charged per gallon (3.8 liters) and can be paid in cash or by card.
  • You will ride the Yamaha Ténéré 700, a light and off-road capable adventure motorcycle with real rally character. It handles asphalt and gravel with ease and is ideally suited for this Andean tour.
  • In the support vehicle, there is usually only one seat available (maximum two). It is allocated on the principle of "who books first, rides."
  • Yes, that is easily possible and a lot of fun for many participants. Everything is just as well organized as for the motorcycle group. We are happy to create offers for 2 to 6 people.
