MOTORCYCLE-TOURS · PERU
This two-week motorcycle tour takes you from Lima to Cusco, the heart of the former Inca Empire. Over approximately 2,300 kilometers, we connect the Pacific coast and the Andean highlands and visit the major highlights of Peru: the Nazca Lines, Machu Picchu, Cusco, and the Ballestas Islands.
The Journey
From the vibrant coastal metropolis of Lima to the "navel of the world" in Cusco: This Peru motorcycle tour takes you along the Pan-American Highway in 15 days, up into the Andes and to the country's most famous sites. We fly over the Nazca Lines, reach Machu Picchu on the eighth day, and observe sea lions and penguins on the Ballestas Islands. Between altitude differences from the coast to over 4,700 meters, new landscapes await constantly. About 2,300 kilometers of riding fun on the Yamaha Ténéré 700, designed for experienced riders.
Welcome to Peru! After arriving at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima, our transfer will take you to the hotel in the Miraflores district. The first evening is yours to settle in.
To kick things off, we explore Lima, the cultural center of Peru with its UNESCO-listed old town. Highlights of the city tour include the Plaza de Armas and the Presidential Palace. (Admissions on site.)
We roll south on the Pan-American Highway. In Ica, we visit the dreamlike desert oasis Huacachina, framed by palm trees and huge sand dunes.
About 140 kilometers further along the Pan-American Highway, we reach Nasca. From here, you can optionally take off in a small plane and view the mysterious Nasca Lines from the air. (Flight on site.)
Today we are heading up into the Andes. On the 460-kilometer stage, we cross the Pampa Galeras nature reserve with its herds of vicuñas and reach altitudes of over 4,500 meters.
About 200 kilometers take us to Cusco, the old Inca capital, whose name means "navel of the world." The Andean city is full of history and charm.
Today the motorcycles are resting. By bus to Ollantaytambo and then by train to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night very close to Machu Picchu.
Early in the morning, we take the first bus up to the world-famous ruins of Machu Picchu and dive into the fascinating world of the Incas. (Admission on site.)
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
The day in Cusco belongs to you. Museums, churches, and the many restaurants around the plaza invite you to explore and linger, just as you like.
On winding 340 kilometers we drive to Andahuaylas, a typical Andean town at 2,900 meters in the valley of the Río Chumba.
Further to Ayacucho. Away from the tourist crowds, we experience the "real" Peru for about 240 kilometers before we reach our destination for today.
Through the airy pass Abra Apacheta at 4,746 meters, we head back to the coast. After about 360 kilometers, we reach the laid-back Paracas.
In the morning we will visit the Ballestas Islands with sea lions, penguins, and seabirds, almost like in Galapagos. In the afternoon we will explore the Paracas National Park by motorcycle. (Boat tour on site.)
On the last approximately 250 kilometers of the Pan-American Highway, we return to Lima, carrying a motorcycle bag full of impressions and memories.
Transfer to the airport and return flight. Until next time, Peru!
