MOTORCYCLE-TOURS · PERU
In a short time, you will visit on the motorcycle the most famous places in Peru: the Nasca Lines, Lake Titicaca, and of course Machu Picchu. But this fascinating country has much more to offer.
The Journey
Experience the most famous sights of Peru on a motorcycle in the shortest time possible, from the Nasca Lines to Lake Titicaca to Machu Picchu, and discover so much more along the way: this trip is what it's all about. You will ride through extremely dry deserts, along deep canyons, visit vibrant cities and colorful markets, and encounter the animals of the Andes. The ultimate goal is the best that South America has to offer: the lost Inca city of Machu Picchu, deep in the Andean rainforest. This is a guided group tour; accommodations will be in cozy 3-star tourist hotels. The route mostly goes along asphalt and is suitable for any adventurous rider, out on the CFmoto 450MT or the Honda NX500.
Welcome to Peru! Today you will arrive in Arequipa, the vibrant city in the south of the country. We will pick you up at the airport and take you to the hotel. During the briefing, your guide will discuss the tour, the formalities, and the deposit for the motorcycle. The rest of the day is yours.
Altitude: 2,300 m · no driving day
Finally, the engines start! First, we need to find our way out of the city. After about 50 kilometers, we reach the Pan-American Highway and follow it north to sea level. Along the Pacific coast, we roll to Puerto Inka, where a nice hotel awaits next to Inca ruins.
Distance: 410 km · Elevation: 2,300 m to sea level · Pavement: Asphalt
We continue along the Pan American Highway northward, through one of the driest deserts in the world, all the way to Nasca. The place is famous for its geoglyphs and lines that can only be seen from the air. In the afternoon, you can optionally take a half-hour flight over the Pampa.
Distance: 180 km · Altitude: sea level to 500 m · Surface: asphalt
From Nasca, the mighty Andes road takes us up over 4,200 meters, where llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas graze. Here begins one of the best motorcycle roads in South America: endless curves for miles. Passing the small mountain village of Puquio, we go even higher before reaching Chalhuanca.
Distance: 340 km · Altitude: 500 m over 4,500 m down to 2,000 m · Surface: Asphalt
After an early breakfast and much ups and downs over the Andes, we reach one of the most beautiful cities in South America: Cusco, the old capital of the Incas.
Distance: 320 km · Altitude: 2,000 m to 3,500 m · Surface: Asphalt
After breakfast, your guide will take you on a guided city walk through the center of Cusco that lasts about two and a half hours. After that, you can explore the city on your own: steep alleys, the Plaza de Armas, markets, the cathedral, museums, and the ruins of Saqsayhuaman.
Altitude: 3,400 m · no travel day
From Cusco we drive to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Along the way, we visit various Inca sites, well-known and lesser-known, each fascinating in its own way. We end the day in the village of Ollantaytambo.
Distance: 80 km · Altitude: 3,500 m to 2,800 m · Pavement: Asphalt
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
The absolute highlight of the trip: Machu Picchu. To this day, there is no road leading here. Early in the morning, the train takes you to the town of Aguas Calientes, from there a bus takes you up to the citadel in half an hour. After the visit, you return by train to Ollantaytambo.
Height: 2,430 m · no travel day
Back on the motorcycle! Today we are heading to Quincemil, a small tropical village on the eastern slopes of the Andes. The paved descent is spectacular, perhaps the most beautiful motorcycle road of your life. We will spend the night in a cozy, family-run hotel in the jungle.
Distance: 300 km · Elevation: 2,800 m to 600 m · Surface: Asphalt
Another extraordinary driving day, now uphill against the mighty Andes, as if you had to drive up a wall. The views are magnificent. After lunch in Macusani, we reach Puno by Lake Titicaca, where we will spend the night.
Distance: 480 km · Altitude: 600 m to 3,800 m · Surface: Asphalt
In the morning, we take a boat trip on Lake Titicaca and visit the floating reed islands of the Uros. The rest of the day is at your leisure.
Altitude: 3,800 m · no travel day
Once again we cross the Andes from east to west, heading towards the Colca Canyon. The reward is tremendous views of the high mountains. We end the day in Chivay; in the afternoon we relax in the natural hot springs.
Distance: 315 km · Elevation: 3,800 m above 4,910 m to 3,600 m · Surface: Asphalt
Again it means getting up early, because the condors don't wait. After about an hour, we reach the “Cruz del Condor” in the middle of the Colca Canyon, where you can observe the Andean condor flying in the wild. After that, we return to Arequipa, where the tour began.
Distance: 260 km · Altitude: 3,600 m to 2,300 m · Surface: Asphalt
Today we will take you to Arequipa airport, from where you will take your return flight. Until next time, Peru!
Altitude: 2,300 m · no travel day
