The Journey

Guided Moto Expedition to Senegal

From Paris, the convoy rides south to Gibraltar and crosses by ferry into Africa. The Morocco motorcycle tour begins on the Atlantic coast, then climbs into the High Atlas — passes and switchbacks before the descent into the Saharan south. A guide leads the group; the support truck stays close with tools and spare parts. Terrain shifts from paved coastal roads to off-road tracks and pre-Saharan gorges. The route pushes through Western Sahara, Mauritania, and Senegal to Lac Rose. The Marrakech-to-Dakar leg is also bookable as a standalone morocco motorbike tour. GPX files provided before departure.

Morocco Motorbike Stage
The Morocco motorbike stage runs from the Atlantic coast through the High Atlas and into the Sahara — the longest section of the expedition, covering roughly 1,500 miles (2,400 km) of guided off-road and mountain riding.
02 Sahara and Desert Stages
02
Sahara and Desert Stages
Progressive terrain from Atlantic dunes and Saharan tracks to the remote desert of Mauritania. The further south you ride, the harder the route becomes. Asphalt fades in Western Sahara and rarely returns until Senegal.

The expedition ends at Lac Rose, the pink salt lake on Dakar’s edge — original Dakar rally finish. Six countries, 22 days: France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal. Motorcycle return Germany via OVERCROSS container is included.

France

The expedition starts at the Eiffel Tower and heads southwest through France to the Atlantic coast. One long day of paved riding to Bordeaux — the group finds its formation before the Africa crossing begins.

Day 1
Motorradreise Paris Dakar Start Eifelturm mit dem Motorradreiseveranstalter OVERCROSS

Paris – Bordeaux (Dune du Pilat)

Meet the group at Place Jacques Rueff in front of the Eiffel Tower. After the briefing, the convoy heads southwest toward the Atlantic coast through French countryside, stopping only for fuel and food. The riding is easy and social — the group is still getting acquainted, the bikes are fresh. First overnight near Bordeaux at Dune du Pilat, the tallest sand dune in Europe at 110 meters. Walk to the top before dark — it’s the last European landmark before Africa.

Spain

Spain is three days of riding south from the Pyrenees to Seville. The Iberian Meseta opens wide and quiet — long roads across plateau country with almost no traffic. Seville is the last major city before the ferry to Africa.

Days 2–3
Motorradreisen Von Paris nach Dakar in Afrika Mauretanien

Bordeaux – Burgos (Pyrenees Crossing)

From the Atlantic coast the route climbs over the Pyrenean foothills and onto the Iberian Meseta. The plateau is wide and sparsely populated — long sight lines, almost no traffic. Overnight in Burgos, a medieval city with a Gothic cathedral worth an hour of your evening.

Days 3–4: Sierra de Gredos – Seville

Day 3 crosses the Sierra de Gredos — the first real mountain switchbacks of the trip — then descends to the Tagus valley. Day 4 runs through Extremadura into Andalusia, the landscape drying as you drop south. The day ends in Seville with time to walk the old city before an early departure to the port.

Morocco

Africa begins at Tanger Med. The morocco motorcycle tour runs from the green Atlantic north through the High Atlas and into the desert south — the longest and most varied section of this moto morocco expedition. For riders joining the motorcycle tour marrakech connection, the Atlas and Saharan stages begin here: Marrakech sits at the gateway to the High Atlas, and the route passes directly through its southern approaches. Atlas passes, off-road gorges, dromedaries, and the first Saharan tracks: this is where motorcycling in morocco stops being a phrase and becomes a daily reality. The morocco motorbike tours experience peaks here, in terrain that shifts from coastal tarmac to high mountain passes to pre-Saharan off-road within five riding days.

Gibraltar – Tanger Med (Africa Crossing)

The ferry from Gibraltar to Tanger Med takes around 35 minutes. Customs clearance for motorcycles at Tanger Med takes several hours — the guide handles logistics while you keep documents ready. Camp goes up just past the port. The morocco motorcycle tour has officially begun: Africa is on the other side of the checkpoint, and the High Atlas is two days ahead.

Rabat – Ouzoud (Atlas Foothills)

From Tanger Med the convoy rides south along the Atlantic coast to Rabat, then turns inland into the pre-Atlas foothills on progressively smaller roads. Moroccan town traffic is dense — mopeds, carts, pedestrians sharing the lane. Past the towns the roads open through rolling farmland and cedar forest. A classic moto morocco motorbike day: the terrain keeps changing, the pace stays high, and the country reveals itself fast. The day ends near the Cascades of Ouzoud, waterfalls dropping 120 meters into an ochre gorge.

Ouzoud Rest and Maintenance Day

A scheduled rest day in the Atlas foothills. Most machines need attention here — chain tension, tires, oil, fasteners after the first serious off-road. The support truck carries the tools and spare parts. If the bike is sorted, hike down to the Cascades of Ouzoud or take the mule track above the gorge. Barbary macaques live in the cedar forest above the falls. Recovery before the High Atlas crossing.

Assni – Taroudant (Tizi n’Test Pass)

Assni sits at the foot of Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 13,671 feet. From here the motorcycle tour marrakech region delivers its defining stage: the convoy climbs the Tizi n’Test — a high pass at 6,835 feet with a single-lane road, near-vertical drops, and regular two-way traffic including trucks. It takes most of the morning to climb and most of the afternoon to descend to Taroudant. This is adventure motorcycling morocco at its most demanding: full concentration required throughout. The Tizi n’Test is the signature climb of every guided motorcycle tours morocco itinerary that crosses the High Atlas south of Marrakech.

Taroudant – Tafraoute (Valley Roads)

From Taroudant the morocco motorbike route enters the Anti-Atlas through an almond valley — a road that follows the canyon wall for hours above dry riverbeds. The first dromedaries appear on the roadside. Tafraoute is a market town surrounded by granite monoliths and the last proper resupply point before the terrain goes seriously off-road. One of the most scenic morocco off road motorcycle tours corridors on the full expedition, and a strong argument for extending the morocco motorcycle trip before pushing into Western Sahara.

Western Sahara

Western Sahara is disputed territory — formerly administered by Spain, now controlled by Morocco. Signs shift from French to Spanish, the landscape opens to desert scrub and sand. Off-road begins in earnest here and does not stop until Senegal.

Days 9–11
Motorradreisen Frankreich Sahara Wüstenstadt Mentalität

Days 10–11: Tafraoute – Smara (Sahara Off-Road)

Two full days of off-road through the western Sahara foothills toward Smara. The track varies from hard-packed gravel to loose sand. Navigation is straightforward with GPX, but the terrain is tiring — long days, high heat, no shade. Checkpoints are regular. This is the transition from morocco motorbike tours terrain into true desert expedition riding: the Sahara enduro expedition character of the route becomes undeniable from day ten onward.

Motorradreisen Marokko Atlas Taliouine Safrananbau

Smara – El Aaiún (Seguiet el Hamra)

Track riding south from Smara along the course of the Seguiet el Hamra, a seasonal river dry for most of the year. The valley floor is flat and fast on hard-packed surface. El Aaiún is large enough for a hotel and a stretch of Atlantic coast. A shorter day — use the afternoon to rest and check the motorcycle before the push to Dakhla.

Motorradreisen Frankreich Dakhla offroad Küste

Days 13–14: El Aaiún – Dakhla (Atlantic Sahara)

Two days on the N1 with the Atlantic Ocean to the right and the open Sahara to the left. The road runs straight and flat — fast riding through enormous scenery. Dakhla sits at the tip of a long peninsula and is known as a kitesurfing destination. Optional: push the pace on day 13 and take a rest day in Dakhla before the Mauritanian crossing.

Mauritania

Mauritania is the hardest leg of the sahara motorcycle expedition. Asphalt is rare, infrastructure is minimal, the terrain is relentlessly sandy. The iron ore train track near Atar delivers one of the most demanding off-road stages of the entire paris dakar route tour. Riders who get through Mauritania arrive in Senegal having earned the finish.

Days 12–15
Motorradreisen Frankreich Dakar Grenze Einreise

Dakhla – Mauritanian Border

From Dakhla south to the Mauritanian border. The no man’s land crossing — a mined buffer zone — requires following the marked track precisely. Document checks, vehicle registration, entry stamps. Camp goes up in the dunes on the Mauritanian side. First encounter with fech fech: a thin crust of dry sand over deep powder that collapses without warning under a front wheel. How you handle fech fech over the next two days defines your Mauritanian experience.

Motorradreisen Frankreich Wüste Oase Tage

Days 16–17: Border – Atar (Iron Ore Track)

Two of the most demanding days on the entire africa motorcycle expedition. The route follows the track of the iron ore train — one of the longest freight trains in the world — off-road to the oasis town of Atar. The terrain alternates between hard pan, rocky surface, and deep sand. Atar was once a major center of Moorish scholarship and trans-Saharan trade. Demanding on both rider and machine — this is the senegal motorcycle expedition at its most remote.

Motorradreisen Marokko Anreise Taxitransfer Camp

Atar – Atlantic Coast (Last Sahara Stage)

The route from Atar to the Atlantic coast runs half paved, half off-road as the Sahara transitions to the Sahel — sparse grass appears, then isolated acacia trees. The overnight is on the beach. The Mauritanian coastline faces the cold Canary Current and is one of the richest fishing grounds in the Atlantic. Among the most remote camps of the entire moto adventure morocco to dakar route.

Motorradreisen Frankreich Dakar Strand Nuakchott

Coast – Nouakchott (Beach Road)

Before the coastal road was built in 2006, the tidal flat itself was the official route to Nouakchott. The convoy still uses it. Timing depends on the tide — the guide checks conditions before departure. Progress on hard-packed wet sand is fast when the timing is right. Nouakchott holds roughly half of Mauritania’s entire population, most living on the edge of the Sahara.

Senegal

Senegal is where the africa motorcycle expedition ends and everything changes. Vegetation returns fast after the river crossing. The bird sanctuary between the border and Saint-Louis is a major wintering ground for European migratory species. The final stage runs south to Dakar and Lac Rose — the finish line of the original dakar rally motorcycle tour and the endpoint of this motorcycle tour paris to africa.

Days 16–18
Motorradreisen Frankreich Grenzübertritt Volgelschutznationalpark Saint-Louis

Nouakchott – Saint-Louis (Senegal River)

Fech fech continues on the approach to the Senegal River. Once across, the landscape transforms within miles — scrub gives way to trees, birds appear in numbers, the air carries humidity. The route passes through Djoudj Bird Sanctuary, a wintering ground for millions of European migratory birds. Overnight in Saint-Louis, a colonial-era island city in the river delta with French architecture and a lively fishing port.

Motorradreisen Peru Ankunft Hotel Stadtteil

Saint-Louis – Dakar (Lac Rose Finish)

Morning departure from Saint-Louis on the paved road south to Dakar through flat savanna and coastal dunes. The convoy reaches Dakar by midday. Following the tradition of the original Dakar rally, this morocco to dakar motorcycle expedition finishes at Lac Rose — Retba Lake — the pink salt lake on Dakar’s northeastern edge, colored by halophilic bacteria. Last group dinner on the shore. The motorcycles ride no more after this evening.

Motorradreise Paris Dakar Start Eifelturm mit dem Motorradreiseveranstalter OVERCROSS

Dakar – Motorcycle Handover

Official end of the expedition. Motorcycles are transferred to the OVERCROSS customs agent and loaded into the container bound for Tübingen, Germany. Container transport back is included in the tour price. No riding today — administrative and logistics day. Riders arrange onward flights from Dakar’s international airport. The container arrives at the OVERCROSS warehouse in Tübingen within four to six weeks.
