For most European and North American citizens no visa is required if the stay is less than 90 days. For longer stays or specific visa types, you should inform yourself online in advance and apply for a visa. A tourist visa is not available upon arrival. The El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá is the largest and best-connected airport in Colombia. Here you have access to many international flights and can benefit from domestic connecting flights to others. If your destination is one of the coastal cities or Medellín, Cartagena and Medellín could also be attractive arrival options.
The local currency in Colombia is the Colombian Peso (COP). Credit cards are often accepted, especially in large cities and hotels. However, cash payment is important since many small businesses and rural areas do not accept cards. It is recommended to always carry some cash to encounter local markets and taxi rides.
Some vaccinations are recommended for Colombia, including Hepatitis A and Typhoid. Malaria prophylaxis is particularly important in rural areas.
