The Journey
Welcome to your motorcycle tour through the Pyrenees. This journey combines varied landscapes with culture and good food. The route starts in Barcelona and takes you along coastal roads, through quiet villages and over demanding passes in the Spanish and French Pyrenees.
In the coming days you ride winding roads through changing scenery, discover famous and quiet places alike, and taste the regional cuisine. Besides the riding there is time to meet new people and to enjoy the landscapes of northern Spain at your own pace.
Spain
This motorcycle trip through the Spanish Pyrenees runs from Barcelona to San Sebastián in ten days: the Costa Brava, the high passes of the Pyrenees, the Basque Country and the desert of the Bardenas Reales. About 2,400 km through the border mountains between Spain and France.
We pick you up at Barcelona airport and take you to the hotel from which your motorcycle trip through the Spanish Pyrenees starts the next morning. After an introduction to the motorcycles and to the course of the tour, you meet the other participants at the welcome dinner in the old town. Barcelona combines Art Nouveau, medieval alleys and modern architecture, and eases you into the days ahead.
We leave Barcelona and ride along the Costa Brava, the rocky coast of Catalonia with its hidden coves. After a short motorway section we reach the winding coastal roads that make this motorcycle tour so rewarding. We stop in Calella and in medieval Pals before continuing to Cadaqués and Cap de Creus, the easternmost point of the mainland. Beautifully placed roads bring us to Figueres, home of the Dalí Museum. About 290 km.
To open the day we visit the Salvador Dalí Museum in Figueres, which the artist designed himself. The route then leads to medieval Besalú and on through the volcanic region of Garrotxa with its extinct craters. Slowly the first foothills of the Pyrenees appear, and we ride winding mountain roads to centrally placed Puigcerdà, which sets you up for the mountain stages of the coming days. About 200 km.
Over the Col de Puymorens we cross the border and reach Andorra, where the Port d'Envalira, one of the highest passes in Europe, opens the gate between the peaks. On remote side roads and old smuggler paths we head back into Spain and into the Vall d'Àneu. The Port de la Bonaigua opens the view onto the Aigüestortes massif before we reach Vielha. A day full of pass roads deep in the Pyrenees. About 250 km.
Today the great French passes are on the programme. We follow the tracks of the Tour de France over the Col de Peyresourde, the Col du Tourmalet at 2,115 metres and the Col d'Aubisque. This winding stage counts among the finest of the whole motorcycle trip through the Pyrenees. Afterwards we ride back into Spain and follow the Rio Gállego through its valley to the historic mountain town of Jaca. About 320 km.
Questions about the tour itinerary?
Our tour guide is happy to answer any questions about the day-by-day route, stops, and details.
Through the valleys of Hecho, Ansó and Belagua we ride via the Col St. Martin into France and along small side roads through the Arbouty forest. Over the Puerto de Larrau we return to Spain and cross the forests of Irati, one of the largest beech woods in Europe. In Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port the Camino de Santiago begins. Following its path we reach the fortress city of Pamplona via Roncesvalles. A varied stage of the motorcycle tour. About 330 km.
Once more we cross into France and ride winding side roads through the Basque Country, past mountains, forests and typical villages. Every curve brings you closer to San Sebastián on the Atlantic coast. The afternoon is yours, whether that means La Concha beach or the old town. In the evening you try the famous pintxos with a glass of Txakoli. A relaxed day on this motorcycle trip through northern Spain. About 180 km.
Through damp coastal country we ride inland until we reach the Bardenas Reales, one of the largest desert landscapes in Europe. The steppe scenery with its table mountains recalls Death Valley and is protected as a biosphere reserve. In the afternoon we explore this natural area before heading to the medieval mountain village of Sos del Rey Católico, birthplace of King Ferdinand II of Aragon and a quiet close to this stage. About 300 km.
The last long stage leads through the heart of the central Pyrenees, where the mountain roads wind in long loops through the peaks. The landscape turns steadily more Mediterranean, and the scent of pine and lemon accompanies us towards the coast. Shortly before Barcelona we reach Montserrat with its striking rocks and the monastery on the steep slopes. Then we roll back into Barcelona, a fitting close to the motorcycle trip through the Pyrenees. About 560 km.
Today it is time to say goodbye. We take you to Barcelona airport for your return flight. The winding passes, the wide landscapes and the shared experiences of this motorcycle trip through the Spanish Pyrenees will stay with you. As a small memento you receive a farewell gift. We hope to welcome you back on another tour soon.
