Yes, as a traveler, you need a visa to enter Vietnam. You can apply for it online or receive it upon arrival, depending on your nationality. It is best to visit the official Vietnamese website for visa applications to get the latest information. Plan ahead to avoid potential issues.
The Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is the largest and most frequented airport. Alternatively, the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi offers good connections. Both airports are well connected internationally and have numerous services for travelers, including currency exchange and mobile providers.
The Vietnamese Dong (VND) is the only accepted currency. Cash is often required, especially in rural areas. Credit cards are accepted in larger cities and at bigger vendors, but it's ideal to have cash on hand. Use ATMs for cash withdrawals; check your bank's fees!
There are no specific vaccinations legally required, however vaccinations against Hepatitis A and B, Typhoid, and Tetanus are recommended. A travel insurance is also advisable to cover unexpected medical costs, especially if you plan to visit rural areas.
To drive in Vietnam, you need an international driving permit (IDP) along with your national driving license. The traffic conditions can be challenging, so it is advisable to take a driving course beforehand or revert to alternative transportation options like taxis or motorcycle taxis.
It is easy to buy a SIM card in Vietnam. At airports and in stores, you will find providers like Mobifone or Viettel. You only need your passport for this. Be sure to choose a plan that suits your usage needs – many local providers have affordable packages for tourists.
