Vietnam Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Yes, as a traveler you need a visa to enter Vietnam. You can either apply for it online or obtain it upon arrival, depending on your nationality. It is best to visit the official Vietnamese visa application website to get the latest information. Plan ahead to avoid potential issues.
The Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City is the largest and most frequented airport. Alternatively, the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi offers good connections. Both airports are well connected internationally and have numerous services for travelers, including currency exchange and mobile phone providers.
The Vietnamese Dong (VND) is the only accepted currency. Cash is often required, especially in rural areas. Credit cards are accepted in larger cities and at major vendors, but it's ideal to have cash on hand. Use ATMs for cash withdrawals; check your bank's fees!
There are no special vaccinations required by law; however, vaccinations against hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and tetanus are recommended. A travel insurance is also advisable to protect you against unexpected medical costs, especially if you plan to visit rural areas.
To drive in Vietnam, you need an international driver's license (IDP) along with your national driver's license. Traffic conditions can be challenging, so it is advisable to take a driving course beforehand or to rely on alternative transportation options such as taxis or motorbike taxis.
It is easy to buy a SIM card in Vietnam. At airports and in stores, you will find providers like Mobifone or Viettel. You only need your passport for that. Make sure to choose a plan that meets your usage needs – many local providers have affordable packages for tourists.
