Turkey Travel and Vacation – Good to know

For visiting Turkey, most travelers need a visa unless they are coming from a visa-free country. You can apply for your visa online through the official e-Visa website. This is the easiest way, as visas on arrival are not available. Make sure you have your passport, an email address, and a credit card ready for payment.
Istanbul Airport (IST) is the largest and best-connected airport in Turkey. It offers excellent connections throughout Europe and beyond. For travel to the Turkish Riviera, you can fly to Antalya (AYT). Smaller airports like in Bodrum (BJV) and Izmir (ADB) also provide access to many popular holiday destinations.
The local currency in Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TRY). It is recommended to use cash for smaller purchases as not all businesses accept credit cards. ATMs are widely available, and most major credit cards are accepted. Remember to carry a small amount of cash for local markets and restaurants where card payments may not be accepted.
Vaccinations are not mandatory, but common vaccinations such as Hepatitis A and Tetanus are recommended. A travel insurance is also strongly advised to cover unexpected medical costs. Check before your trip to ensure you have adequate coverage, especially if you plan to visit remote areas or engage in activities that have injury risks.
To stay connected during your stay in Turkey, you can purchase a local SIM card. These are available in shops, at the airport, and from major mobile carriers. Be prepared to show an ID. The offered packages are usually affordable and provide inexpensive rates for data and calls. This way, you can stay connected during your trip without high roaming charges.
