Turkey Travel and Vacation – Good to know
For visiting Turkey, most travelers need a visa unless they are from a visa-free country. You can apply for your visa online through the official e-Visa website. This is the easiest way, as visas are not available on arrival. Make sure you have your passport, an email address, and a credit card for payment ready.
Istanbul Airport (IST) is the largest and best-connected airport in Turkey. It offers the best connections within Europe and beyond. For travel to the Turkish Riviera, you can fly to Antalya (AYT). Smaller airports like in Bodrum (BJV) and Izmir (ADB) also provide access to many popular vacation destinations.
The local currency in Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TRY). It is recommended to use cash for smaller purchases, as not all stores accept credit cards. ATMs are widespread, and most major credit cards are accepted. Remember to carry a small amount of cash for local markets and restaurants where card payments may not be accepted.
Vaccinations are not mandatory, but common vaccinations such as Hepatitis A and Tetanus are recommended. A travel insurance is also strongly recommended to cover unexpected medical costs. Check before your trip whether you have adequate coverage, especially if you plan to visit remote areas or engage in sports activities that carry risk of injury.
To be mobile reachable during your stay in Turkey, you can purchase a local SIM card. These are available in stores, at the airport, and from major mobile providers. Be prepared to show an ID.
