Tibet Travel and Vacation – Good to know

Yes, you need a visa to travel to Tibet. This can only be applied for through the Chinese embassy or online, not upon arrival. It is especially important that you obtain a travel permit for Tibet, which must be applied for through a travel agency in China. Make sure all documents are in order well before your departure to avoid issues!
Lhasa Gonggar Airport is the best airport for international arrivals. There are regular flights from Chengdu and other cities in China. Don’t forget to book in advance as seats fill up quickly during peak travel seasons. From Lhasa, you can take transportation to your destination. It’s a wonderful way to enjoy the beauty of the region during your journey.
The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). Credit cards are accepted in larger cities, especially in hotels and restaurants, but it is advisable to bring cash. Many small shops do not accept cards. ATMs are not available everywhere, so bring enough cash with you from Lhasa. Avoid exchanging money at the airport, as rates can be poor.
