Yes, you need a visa to travel to Tibet. This cannot be obtained upon arrival but must be applied for through the Chinese embassy or online. It is especially important that you obtain a travel permit for Tibet, which must be requested through a travel agency in China. Make sure that all documents are ready in time before your departure to avoid problems!
Lhasa Gonggar Airport is the best airport for international arrivals. There are regular flights from Chengdu and other cities in China. Don’t forget to book in advance, as seats fill up quickly during peak travel times. From Lhasa, you can take transportation to your destination. It’s wonderful for enjoying the beauty of the region while on your way.
The local currency is the Chinese Yuan (CNY). Credit cards are accepted in larger cities, especially in hotels and restaurants, but it is advisable to bring cash.
